John Fitch
I've just read of the death of John Fitch at the age of 95. He had an impressive record in sportscar racing in the '50's and 60's as well as the inventor of the 'fitch barrier' used on thousands of miles of US roads. A quiet, gentle and thoughtful man who was much respected and who remained active until very recently. RIP John

Yup, RIP. He had some strong views of the 1955 Le Mans, which agree or not, he never swayed from.

A gentleman, tireless worker in the field of road safety, and an above-average driver.
He finished 5th overall in the "Moss" 1955 Mille Miglia in a Merc 300SL road car, winning his class and beating into second Olivier Gendebien, himself a superb sports-car driver. Probably his finest drive. RIP |

Thanks "bear" for the link to the 95th birthday party.
What a great guy John Fitch was, and to see some of the other road racers was good too. Well worth taking a look on youtube is Jay Leno interviewing him when he was only 91. |
