They have been for a while, since 2010 they've all been running 3.4 litre v8s. This is not a dramatic change, if anything, it's an improvement. Bringing the costs down on components which aren't core to the show while potentially increasing the variety of cars is a really good thing.

What were you expecting? Why on earth would Toyota and Honda develop two separate specs of engine for different domestic racing series, each commanding mult-billion yen budgets?

GT500 in Super GT and Formula Nippon are VERY expensive. Given the state of the global and domestic economy, and the troubles Japanese car companies are facing, on what planet was anything else viable? Racing costs money, and there's not so much to go around at the moment.

Are there still any plans to add hybrids to the engine regulations in 2014... I thought I remember reading that Super GT and Formula Nippon would use 2L DI Turbo Hybrid engines in 2014 and that DTM tubs were already built to possibly include a hybrid system as well

Given Toyota and Honda are already running hybrids in GT300, I'd be surprised if they didn't have them in the 2014 cars.

So NSX for Honda, GTR for Nissan. But what car for Toyota/Lexus in the future? Maybe a new Lexus coupe?

I think they might stick to the SC430 again... or maybe they would choose the LF-LC concept car.

Of course, it would be weird if they choose the LFA running in 4-cylinders.

But SC430 doesn't exist. No way they would use that car which has been out of production for 5 years. Maybe Lexus will make an IS-F coupe, which would compete directly with the M3/M4.

That sucks, they are one of two favorite race teams, They should won this year, their car was one of the fastest this year. Too bad they started at the back and then got a drive through penalty.

Sports-carracing.net report SGT and DTM regulation unification.
http://www.sports-carracing.net/2012...121031special1

*2014 monocoque differs from the present DTM monocoque.
It is because 2014 monocoque corresponds to MR layout.
DTM also use this 2014 monocoque from 2014.

*Common parts are about 50. They are made in Germany.
*Japanese original common parts are about 20. They are manufactured in Japan.

*Six manufacturers share the development costs of common parts.
This burden of expense will be a barrier for a new participant.

I wish I could read Japanese, because the article surely sounds interesting. However, a rather bad Google translation ruins it for me.

What I do find interesting, is that the DTM will already switch their monocoques in 2014. Could this mean that all manufacturers could switch to a MR-layout? If so, then we basically have our own version of Grand-AM. Perhaps ISCAR could even consider using the DTM/SGT specs, due to the similarities to their current DPs?

What does this actually mean? Is the monocoque designed to accomodate both FR and MR layouts or only MR?

Since you mentioned that it's possible for the new NSX (or an Audi R8) GT500 car to compete in either DTM or Super GT (which is okay IMO), then it's a possibility that they might share their rulebook to Grand Am's prototype class.

I imagining myself watching a Corvette or Mustang competing against a GT-R GT500 and a BMW M3 DTM car.
