Season Launch

The season launch is at Sydney Olympic Park on saturday 19th Feb.
Does anyone know if all the drivers and teams will be there with thier 2005 livery cars.
Only on from 2-4pm, one would think they would have a full day launch.
How much is the cost to get into this launch, as no price has been mentioned. i am sure there will be some cost as big tony only does things to make a buck.

False Advertising

As I was driving about yesterday, I heard on the radio an advertisement for the V8 launch this weekend. As I reached for the dial flick off the station, what was said stopped me for a second.

"Come and see the fastest Cars in Australia"

Hmmmm I thought, since when was the 5 Litre cars, quicker than a Formula Holden ???

And is there any repercussions for misleading the public like this. ?????

I'd have thought that a Funny Car would have both the V8SC and FHolden covered?

From what i've heard and read, all announced drivers will be there. Not sure about all cars, but i'd say a fair few transporters and their contents will be there.

It's only the 'show n' shine' that is free, the official launch, which includes AVESCO's new marketing plan, is invites only.

I was going to go until i found out we couldn't get in to see the juicy stuff.............

I am impressed by the reach of the radio ads. A number of people in the last few days, who know of my interest in motorsports, asked whether I was attending the Supercar launch today (Saturday)

Now these people arent motorsport fans... they more often can be found in the northern or eastern part of town for a rough demographic breakdown, but obviously the ads have good recall... or they just like me a lot... Nah, that couldnt be it

But it suggests to me that with these casual followers remembering parts of these radio ads... is it not a problem for the sport that it cannot convert people who listen to their communications but dont follow thru by physical attendance?

To my mind, its the symbol (no.. not HRT) of a problem of relevance of the sport, of what you get out of attending a race meeting, to the consumer base out there....

Maybe the launch here will do something to help that along... especially since it is FREE (I bet TC had a coronary at that...) but wonder whether the casual fan will attend, or just the motorsport nuts like us....

since when is it a car bartman
4 wheels and an engine does not make a car, a motor vehicle yes, but not a car

out the back i have what i would call a buggy, it has 4 wheels and a motor, but by no means is it a car, its closer to a motorbike

Using that logic, a V8 Supercar isn't a car either.

A Formula 4000 (Holden) vehicle is classified as a "Car". The same as an F3 "Car", Formula Renault and a F1 "Car".

Kimi Raikonen's first ever "Car" race was in a Formula Renault

Having just arrived back from there I must say that I was disapointed.
(I know, I was there early from 1pm till 2pm) but there wasnt a real lot to get excited about. There was already a big crowd gathered around and hundreds more streaming in. I am glad that it was free. AVESCO are disapointed with Sydney crowds and media coverage so maybe they should of somehow had more of a "WOW" factor. I took my wife for the first time to a V8 outing but I am sure it will be a long time before she comes to another. As she said...."If I want to see trucks parked in the hot sun I will go to a truckstop carpark."
I know that it "officially" hadnt started then, but most drivers were already sitting there doing autographs and photos.......
I really hope that it improved after I left.
