Grade 2 is officially ratified for all WEC classes, even if Grade 1 seems to be their unfortunate preferation.

Anyway just like at Mosport now, runoffs of modern Glen have been asphaltized to large extent today by NASCAR, only the small loop that isn't part of the Sprint Cup weekend configuration looks like other North American venues.

The only bit that would actually needs upgrading would be constructing actual physical garages, even though WEC wouldn't need them either if they stepped out of their comfort zone and sticked to tents like rest of the people in States. But I guess corporate guest lounges and catering services are most important part of the weekend...

Asphalt is better then sand, because a car got stuck in it and causes caution after caution. I do find it pretty funny that all that was to get IndyCar to race there.

I remember the NASCAR races up there before that happened, and over 90% of the time one went into the gravel, it got beached and brought out a FCY.

I couldn't/can't see how Indy Car would've had much better luck with their cars getting beached. And with WG having so many fast corners and the gravel pits near overtaking areas (where most collisions/spins happen), a FCY is usually the result.

Also, this isn't like LM where there's equipment at trackside that can pull a car out of the gravel with only need for a local yellow.

So, the paved run-off areas are a blessing and a curse, especially for the traditionalist. But IMO, if there's less interruption in the races, the better.

I am not a fan of the paved runoff area, but I understand the need for it. I hate what it has done to my local track, Mosport.

Wouldn't a nice compromise be a 3 or 4 ft strip of grass between the edge of the track and the runoff? That would at least give you a visual separation.

The Glen has Nascar garages that could be used... bring your own walls though. The pit set up is completely different too.

I guess the WEC could do without those pit luxuries. By the way, why do grade 1 tracks have no pit wall inside pits? Isn't safer in case a car crashes inside over there?

Safer? Probably. But you can't simply roll the car into the garage and put an army on it (or hide it) but instead have to drive into the paddock and around back. This would be a major change for WEC and F1.

WEC did it in 2012 already at Sebring, and ILMC three times before that there and RA without issues.

It's comfort thing

Anyway it's bit pointless to discuss since only tracks FIA and Neveu are ever gonna consider in America are CotA, Indianapolis, Montreal and Mexico because of Formula 1 state of things

And even more pointless because it's been discussed to death already. Partly by me. I'm sorry

I had a question about the Mazda gas engine. Was this the same engine that ran isobutanol with the Dyson team? If so, wouldn't the engine need to be retuned to run optimally on gasoline?

Turns out they have withdrawn the 70 (petrol) car. Nunez said on rlm it is so they can test the petrol engine some more......Shaw thought there may be more to it than that.

I think it is fair to say that the Ligier is very fast around Watkins Glen. Smoking it right out of the gate. Up on the field by 1 second in individual lap times.

Delta Wing and Mazda diesel barely faster than GTLM again.
