¡New Lancia Stratos GT2 for Le Mans and Nurburgring1
as told here: http://es.autoblog.com/2010/11/30/el...icitamente-la/
The New Stratos builded by Pininfarina for Michael Stoschek will be built as a race car as well, homologated in FIA GT2 class (so the will be forced to build an small road car serie of 25 units). In the roof of the race car appear names as Munari... It seems that the race car is been built by Danisi Engineering, from Itali (the same that built the 156 S2000 WTCC car). They are looking forward to use it in the European GT2 Championship, but they may be use it as well in races like Le Mans (where it short wheel base will be an issue) ant the 24 hours of the Nordschleife/Nurburgring, where it can go really well in E1 XP2 (like other GT2 cars like the M3 GT2 last year) with chances of winning overall... I fallen in love with this car... Whant do you think? The only problem that I see is that they can't use it on rally races... If the IRC allow them to use it on tarmac rallyes.... (I know that its imposible, the car is too expensive to that propouse) |

Is 25 cars enough for an ACO-homologation? You need 300 for FIA GT1, so I would be kinda surprised if the ACO allowed such an obvious homologation special.
And there isn't even an FIA GT2-class next year, perhaps they could race it in GT-Open with its more liberal (read: nonexisting) homologation rules, but that's about it, I'd think. Sorry, but I'm not putting a lot of stock into that one, yet. Especially if Spanish Autoblog is anything like its American counterpart as far as their racing knowledge is concerned. |

I can't imagine the likes of Spyker produced anything like a 300 car run for homologation... Quote:

Isn't the car really a re-bodied F-430?

Lancia doesn't really qualify as a small manufacturer, though, does it?
But then, they didn't produce the car and aren't going to be involved in the production run (if it happens at all), so who knows, perhaps there is a chance to homologate it. Quote:

Lancia is not direct involved in the project. The car is a Pininfarina Stratos, not a Lancia project. The Fiat Group make some concesions and give them some help like allowing them to use the Baloco test track, but no more... According to my sources within the project, 25 cars will be enough... The question is in wich races they will run the car?.. Le Mans is, for me, too fast for a car with such wheelbase... Insetability at high speed is a major issue that they not have in circuits like the Nordschleife (any way, Nurburgring have a loooooooooooong straight as well, but it have a lot of corners) |

Anyway, the ACO is flexible when they consider that one car is of their interest... you know... Last edited by EgoSprint; 30 Nov 2010 at 12:39. |

I was assuming that any homologation would be with Stoschek as the manufacturer, rather than Lancia, and if the oily bits come from a Ferrari 430, I'm guessing there isn't much actual Lancia content in this apart from the styling and the Stratos name

Reminds me so much of the Spyker GT2 from the rear view, not to mention it is one of the coolest looking cars built for GT, In my opinion. Let's hops it's for real and will be allowed to race.

Well I will believe this when I see it. But it definitely has the makings of a fan favourite.

or the Montecarlo Group 5 endurance racer, which shared the same basic origins and central tub to the 037.
The racing nuovo Stratos above is currently just a 1:8 scale model according to Autocar. |

Some pictures of the road car launch from Tiago Monteiro's Twiter account - http://yfrog.com/1nrya0j
The official site (www.new-stratos.com) is a bit short on details, saying that not's not yet decided if this is a one-off or the start of a limited run. |

I've god contacts inside the project... it looks that the car will be sell in road spec at around 700.000€ in a limited run of 25 units. It looks that this will be to pay back some of the money invested on the project, and to allow the car to be race-homologated. Selected media press were invited to run some test with the car, like the people of EVO: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...ar_review.html anyway, happy news |

Am I the only one thinking about how good it would be around Long Beach or other tight courses? That's almost an unfair advantage that would become a major flaw at Le Mans or in high speed curves in general -although it's probably narrower than anything else: hello drag advantage! - but it should count on proven Ferrari power.
Either way, variety is great and this addition should be especially interesting. |

Great to have yet another new car joining the ranks, but of course I prefer the original.

The original Stratos was mechanically a Ferrari, so little difference, really. I'd love to think they would run it in tarmac rallies, in full alitalia colours...
I have VERY fond memories of Markku Alen attacking the RAC Rally in HALF a Stratos, after the boot lid flew off somewhere in Sutton Park! That noise rattling of trees sends shivers down the spine, even now. A real one competes in rallies in the UK, sponsored by Vodka Kick. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikejackson/2572156725/ It took a LOT of aero kit to turn it into a circuit racer, though... |

Well, the FIA is working on a new RGT ruleset for (most probably defanged) GT-cars in the WRC, so there might actually be an opening there.
