ALMS Rnd 10: Laguna Seca 19-21 Oct 2006

I thought we had a Laguna Seca thread but apparently not.

Two weeks today and the LMP1 grid will be minus one Dyson Lola. DSC are reporting that the logistics involved in getting the #20 car repaired and raceworthy in time have led to the decision to field just the #16. Chris Dyson and James Weaver share driving duties with Butch and Guy sidelined for this race.

Great shame to see the LMP1 grid depleted for the season finale!

The Zytek team plans to participate in the season finale at the famous Laguna Seca circuit on October 21st. Last year saw Zytek win the 4 hour race, a stern test as cars race through the twilight and into darkness.

Normaly Creation will also be back with one car so the 2 European LMP1's are back to fight for victory!

DSC are reporting that Michael Vergers will partner Stuart Moseley in the Bruichladdich Radical. If the car behaves, that'll be a very quick pairing!

I have said this all season long, but Mr Barazi will get a Radical next year. His mentor Vergers has been with hooked up with both Bruichladdich and Radical for so long that any other choice would make little sense.

I'm not disagreeing with your Barazi link in any way, but there is an alternative context here. Michael Vergers has raced Radical's in the past, was the Radical test driver and only last year was the man chosen by Radical to break the Nordschleife production car lap record in the SR8. There are strong enough links between Michael and Radical for this to have no connection to Barazi whatsoever.

Yeah that's not what I was saying. I was just stating that Barazi could very well buy a Radical due to Vergers' strong link with Radical. This once again confirms that strong link.

My 7 year old is getting really excited. I asked him what he was looking forward to seeing most and his reply was the Ferrari 430. Suppose I still have some work to do in order to fully get him prototype crazy. He then asked about overall and class positions. So we had a nice discussion about that.

As for me, I'm anxious to see the new R10s in person. It'll be great to hear TWO RS Spyders this time around. And having seen the Creation car in 2004 and the Zytek in 2005 it will be cool to see them both this year. I'm also looking foward to seeing the two SR9s.

Will be interested to see if the track people have done anything in regards to the botched re-pave job. The bottom of the corkscrew was very bumpy during Moto GP along with several other areas.

LOL! Nooo, try 32.

FYI, top R10 is 1:15.060 with the top RS Spyder at a 1:15.201. The Porsche is quicker than last year's qualifying pace.

Difference between Capello and Dumas = 0.001

The top 5 was extremely close: within 0.3 sec of each other.
  • Porsche #7: 1:14.962
  • Audi #2: 1:14.963
  • Zytek: 1:15.074
  • Porsche #6: 1:15.201
  • Audi #1: 1:15.247

Creation and Dyson need to find some extra pace:
  • Creation: 1:16.490
  • Dyson: 1:17.012

Hopefully the Radicals and Horag can improve a bit as well, to close the gap with Intersport:
  • Intersport: 1:16.752
  • Bruichaddich Radical: 1:18.046 (Dunlop)
  • van der Steur: 1:20.269 (Kumho)
  • Horag: 1:21.510

Normally at http://www.imsaracing.net/imsaNS.cfm...esultsalms.htm, but it is not there yet. You can see it in the live timing however: http://www.imsaracing.net/2003/lt/ltc.html This will become unavailable once the next training sessions start.

Obviously Dyson will improve, but imagine if Zytek weren't at Laguna, ' Oh my, look at how those petrol P1s struggle against the all conquering diesels!'
