Thundersports should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Stingbrace & Randaccio

Thought in these long cold winter nights I would start a thread on these two Italian racers who have the best "racing" names in recent years I had a look on here and there is very little info on them. They always raced "mens" cars big Can-am Marchs, Group C2, Interserie Fondmetal F1, "proper" F3000 etc. Some will already know this;

"Stingbrace" was a psyuedenum for Stefano Sebastiani who was the hotel manager for the Berkley in London, it was used as cover for his racing activities so his family wouldn't find out. From memeory "Stingbrace" stood for Sebastiani racing in Britain or something similar.

Ranieri Randaccio was an Italian business man who had he taken up a career in acting would have made a great Dracula with his tall frame and long face! Ranieri was the quicker of the two drivers and was last seen in a LMP2 car in ELMS.

Hope when we finish the thread it can go in the drivers Wiki here along with some pics if anyone has some.

Stingbrace was still racing (in a ferrari 550 engined F40) until very recently both in British GT and (I think) both some britcar and italian club racing - I think his son now also races.

This is the car - http://archive.dailysportscar.com/su...s/sun_cc06.jpg

Good thread!

I reember Stingbrace sharing with Robin Smith in is Can-Am March in the late 80's. I also remember Ranieri Randaccio doing the Brit 3000 series one season in a loaned First Racing March. Mirko Savoldi did a few rounds in that car as well, perhaps Raniei was supporting him at the time?

I thought Randaccios car in the brit F3000 was a Reynard 90D, Savoldi drove it the following year with his support.

chunterer you were thinking of Tony Trimmers March 88B from the 1989 BF3000.

Seem to remember Stingbrace racing a Williams FW06 in Marlboro colours alongside Agostini in the Aurora series in 79/80. Not outstandingly fast but certainly no slouch either.

I'm not sure about Stingbrace in Aurora. Robin Smith who ran the pair sometimes competed in a very old March.

Savoldi certainly drove with Randaccio a couple of times in the Group C Berkeley Team Spice in 1991

Gimax Senior I think. At least 1 other Italian shared the 2nd Price Williams on occasion, can't remember now, but NOT Stingbrace or Randaccio.

Going a bit off-topic, I remember there were a number of Micangelis racing in the early/mid 80's, particularly in the ETCC and sportscars- 3 of them (Marco, Maurizio and Massimo?) as I recall. Presumably brothers?

Still off topic! Yeah I remember them from the ETC too. I think at least one of them was a F2 pedaller in the 70's?

I seem to recall them driving either Imberti or Jolly Club prep'd Alfa GTV6's and then ex CibiEmme Bimmer 635's in the 80's

Imagine the arguments when they were growing up when there was a letter addressed to "M. Micangeli".
