What next for Joest Racing?

Now that the Audi LMP programme is coming to an end, what does Joest Racing do? Reinhold will be 80 next year - is there a succession plan in place? Or does he retire and the team folds? Or does the team look at GT3 with Audi, or forge links with a new manufacturer? Questions, questions...

I am not sure about Joest Porsche really. I doubt Joest would prefer to be a client again. They are left in a limbo. Too late to do anything for next year. They could stay at Audi and become something like WRT(but again a client), maybe move into DTM(we all know how that worked the last time). The best thing would be for Audi to have a comeback plan over the next 5 years and keep Joest around to pick up from where they left off.

While Joest Porsche sounds nostalgic, I will always associate the team more with Audi as here they ran a full factory programme whilst they were always clients of Porsche(exception 98).

Manthey have been linked to the WEC GTE effort as the in house squad...

Joest is still hiring people, new people, for a new project..... There might be, (and I use might in the loosest fashion possible)for a DPi project. It's now known that petrol engine for the R18 was in development prior to the program cancellation. What those jobs are, I have no idea.. nothing is posted, but, the 300 Audi Sport employees have been retained, and new people are being hired, or have been hired, by Joest. You don't have room for 300 people in FE, and redistribution of many of them is unecessary, and unlikly given what else is out there currently.

Wishful thinking here.

So Audi is out because they want to be more electric.
Joest is still hiring people.
If Audi indeed developed gasoline engine for R18, then what about a Bentley return?

Bentley has Le Mans heritage, only wants to fight for overall win and don't emphasize on wanting to be electric.

Still has to be paid for by VAG though. I think cost cutting is the reason not that LMP1 is suddenly not so relevant to them. I imagine that dieselgate has already cost them much more than they thought and they aren't done yet.

Wishful thinking here too.

What is the possibility of a Joest R18 private non-hybrid With this mentioned gasoline engine?

Near zero. The best case scenario is probably running a third Porsche in two or three races.

Don't see the Porsche scenario happening.

Less than zero. Audi won't allow it.

Joest could easily run 2016 spec 919s at Le Mans.

Maybe he should see if Jaguar has any spare chassis laying around. Hey, it worked once before...

Wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that Red Bull are paying Audi to build an F1 engine.
