Supercars reinvent the FIA approved safety cell
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...1bf18aee36fa76
Any logical reason they didn't just use the proven, fully accredited Erebus E-Cell? I'm thinking that while the E-Cell keeps the driver safe, it just doesn't line some of the old boys pockets like it should, you know? Why let the Krauts at AMG get all the kickbacks... "I love that E-cell!!" Lee Holdsworth, post 40g incident. |

"The 100km/h Holdsworth hit has been described as the biggest crash in Supercars history with the g-force of the collision measured at double the figure that can kill."
By whom ? People that don't remember Mosterts, Lowndes, Porter, the Rat etc? Betty is more than a litt bit ****ed as well. |

Good that they're always looking forward, from what Dave Stuart is quoted as saying, it sounds like whatever is being done now goes further than the Erebus E cell. You also need to remember that Dave Stuart is ex SBR & ex Erebus on top of being the tech director at VASA so he probably has a good idea of the differences between this setup & the E cell.
In regard to the g reading from Holdsworth's Shunt, if Dave Stuart says it's the highest g reading they've seen, I'd believe him - how far back they've been keeping records on the g impacts I don't know - it may be he means the biggest they've seen on a COTF. |

Not exactly brand new news - the Penske tray has been the subject of media coverage for some time.
Whilst it is great to see the push to better protect the driver spare a thought for the volunteer officials. In the Bathurst incident the officials were injured with at least one spending a number of days in hospital before being able to be released. The photo attached to the story actually shows one of the better protected points and I can assure you that their are numerous points around other tracks that leave a lot to be desired. It would be great to see the boffins tackle that one and put some money up to help provide improved protection for those giving up their time and experience to allow the drivers to race. |

People keep harping on about how they're ignoring the E-Cell blah blah but if they actually read the articles they will realise it's designed to be an extension of the existing product.
It's a long time coming, the drivers limbs need to be better restrained in the cockpits. |

There have been some massive ones over the years. On the telly, the Holdsworth crash didn't look that big.

Correct.
The chassis requires modifications to the floorpan and some bar work, to accommodate for the E-Cell. |
