Oh you lacky lacky lacky baaaaaaaaaaarstard.

(coywright Monty Python's Life of Brian)

If a hundred yards in 1st in a carpark counts (which it doesn't but I'm going to mention it anyway... ) - 199mph, 500bhp and £150k's worth of Ferrari 550 Maranello. And yes I did require a tissue.

If we're talking a few miles, then a 2002 Impreza STi Type UK.

If we're talking lots of miles, then probably my current 2003 Impreza WRX. Which - for me, for now, on the road - is just about right... I could probably get from A to B via Z (naturally) quicker in this than the more powerful STi.

Sometime, I hope to get a go in my mate's 911. Probably when I've summed up the courage to let him have the keys to the Scooby... It's a 993 with lots of RS type work done to it. Normal 993 body (i.e. not turbo/wide bodied), but with sports suspension & exhaust and 400bhp thru the rear wheels...

Faster car owned was the 98 WRX, and I drove a mates Porsche 911. To be honest though, I'm not sure if the 911 was that much faster (probably in top speed, but I did'nt get to try that ).

Infiniti G35 Coupe.

Woulda been the SS396 Chevelle, but that doesn't have the gearing for high top speeds. And it's only fast in a straight line anyhow.

I have driven a Ferrari 360 modena around Goodwood and Silverstone, and also I have my own Maserati 3200GT which is capable of 174mph, and in which I have seen the other side of 160mph!

Don K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Probably my current family car, a Skoda diesel station.

Don't know how fast it can go.
As soon as I started driving 180 kph on a German Autobahn last year, some other cars started racing me, so I quickly went back to 160 (not knowing the roads, and not being used to driving in mountains).

I got a chance to drive a Nissan 300Z Twin Turbo once Very smooth and faster than you think. Also drove a buddies Mustang LX with a tuned up 302. Car ran in the low 12s at the strip.

In order of highest potential speed...

Ferrari 365GTB/4 Daytona
Aston Martin DBS Vantage
Ford Sapphire RS Cosworth (Ford AVO Police Special prototype)
Lotus Esprit Turbo
Toyota Supra 3.0

The Aston is the car I have driven the fastest in. Very satisfying to flash your lights and have a BMW M3 Coupe creep meekly out of your way...

Not wishing to pinch anyone's thunder Woody or Tim, but I worked at McLaren for a couple of years on the F1 road car project.
One day at an airport in Holland, we took 17 passengers to 210 mph and back, then drove the car home. Piece of cake.

The quickest road car I've driven is a Viper SRT-10. Fast, that. It's good fun to floor it off the line and leave a couple of 14" wide strips of rubber behind you...

Nothing nearly as interesting for Old 'Bottle... the car with the fastest theoretical top speed driven by me is probably my wife's new toy although so far we have no idea what it'll do!! It's a Quantum H4 (look at www.quantumowners.com ) factory built from all new parts in 1997. It weighs a bit more than a Fiesta and has a 1800 Zetec engine. I'll get the hang of this FWD lark eventually!
The chap who built our Vincent Hurricane kit claims 110mph while our Granada claims to top out at 120mph. Bit slow by most standards really !!
