Black & white Le Mans pics

Thought it would be interesting to start a topic dedicated to good old-fasioned black and white photography of one of the greatest races on earth. I'd like to see any pictures taken at Le Mans, not just of the cars and tracks, but including the fans, crews, and all the good stuff that goes with the race. Could make for an interesting look at Le Mans through the years with a perspective unchanged by time.

May I go first?

There's nothing old about this shot. It's last year's winning car in the 16th hour as it crests the hill just after The Esses and heads for Tertre Rouge...

I'm glad to hear there are other b/w aficionados out there. I make a point to shoot 5-10 rolls at every race I attend.

David Legangneux made some superb B&W shots last year, but for the moment, its URL leads to Shuttle crew picture memorabilia :

I'll warn you when it swaps to the site again...

My good pal Stoffer let me have these pics from 1957. I'm sure he would want as many people as possible to see them.

Bob, great to see black and white in modern times. I just turned 16, and lots of people think I'm crazy to love black and white. It's just the emotions they arouse.

16 with a 60 year old soul. :-) I agree; b/w photos have a depth to them that is lacking in color photos.

can't agree entirely bob. some scenes, especially at le mans, cry out for colour.

Ahhh... Yes. Amazing. But notice the duotone feel of that photo. It speaks volumes, but with essentially only reds and blacks.

Are you the photog? Nice.

i love black and white photos,
whenever i download a new picture for my desktop i always look for a black and white one, if i cant find one i use a colour one and turn it black and white on photo impact.

You can always alter colour photos. This is one of the excite backgrounds, put into black and white, and then had a watercolour effect added to it.

Frankly when I was young(er) I shot B&W because it was cheap and I could do it at home pretty easily:
