Wouldn't they need to bolt 2 of them together (to get 8 cylinders)

The cut-and-shut on the VE and FG is relatively indistinguishable, but geeze adding 2 ft to the length of a car to make it fit the rules that's hard to disguise!

As a new touring car formula, perhaps.. the car may be a little smaller, but it's a much bigger strecth than DTM of course, as Audi and Merc at least sell unrelated but very fast versions of those cars. I'm not sure what engine they will bring to support manufacturers outside of Ford, GM, Chrysler and Toyota. Perhaps engines can still be swapped despite splits for Mazda and Mitsubishi. The FIAT Ritmo is a more contempary candidate to carry the Dodge motor as the Lancer. But what engines for the likes of Nissan, Citroen and Hyundai?

Unlike the current cars, which as we know are closely based on the road car shells!
I was fortunate enough to be given the guided tour through FPV's pit garage at Hamilton, and the gentleman from FPV hosting the tour was very accomodating of us. After much poking in and around MW's car and asking many questions from myself I deduced that the only parts of the FG that were from the road car were the bootlid, roof, bonnet, drivers and passengers doors, and these were cut and shut quite a bit! The front and rear wheelarches and rear doors were all carbon fibre. The floor pan was fully fabricated (no FG there) and we were told that it takes 2000 hours to build a single shell. (beautifully done too) No reason why the same procedure couldn't be applied to any other car you would poke a stick at. Except of course political reasons, and because a lot of you don't like foreign interlopers!..........

I never realised how much is changed in the current cars till i saw the insert on the new FG Falcon... they spoke of how the roof was lowered and the floorpan built from scratch etc... was a shame really... why cant they base it off the road going shell but just modded for the safety equipment etc?

its like its aussie's version of DTM minus the huge flairs....

...... oh and modern engines

As long as it's still Australia's Number 1 selling car -the marketing types will keep the Commodore until another model goes close in sales numbers

Sounds like they're looking at the kind of cars that the Brazillians run in their "Stock Cars" series. They're little shopping cars with proper motors stuffed up the front.

How good does that look!

Like a DTM but with a proper sized V8 engine in it instead of puny one. I didn't know "stock cars" had diffusers...

It shows that a series of front driver look alikes such as the Brazilian stock cars can have plenty of "show" about it.

We certainly would not want to see such cars though. The current cars have a good blend of 2L production style touring and NASCAR, without going off on the tangent of over the top wings and bodykits.

I think it's series of fancy sports sedans, with spec cars. Nationwide motor apparently, so plenty of hp. (actually they only have 480 hp - darn restrictors and long life engine rules, but they still sound a sight better than DTM though).

Choice of 408 or Vectra body style. No Ford though..

Seems like the styling wasn't always so sleek, the cars used to be quite boxy (check out the old Bora style or the Lancer - yuck), so good looking race cars are an evolutionary process after all maybe?

And Maxy Wilson looks happy in victory lane, finally free of Craig Gore rustbuckets...
