Ten and Supercar
With the ongoing financial issues with Ten, one of the things I have been asked is how will this affect V8s. Given that we see the events under Win naming on free to air with the Ten logo. Does this mean V8s are technically under Fox/Win now.I notice too in Queensland our channels used to have the 8s as win and the 5s as ten. Now it is 8s as ten and 5s as win. V8s are still under 5s so does that also point to a change that we didn't know about. With Ten and Win being linked to does this mean that the whole network 10/8 will fold or just one side.

Hard to say what would happen as of right now. Imo if ten ceased operations they should consider a switch to live streaming the events specified in their contract Foxtel contract, it's cheaper and can reach a much broader audience

The thing is about that is its not as good as people say it is. You can have good internet and still struggle with it. Depends on how they went about it I suppose

Don't they have to broadcast Bathurst on FTA under the law?

I think Bathurst, Sandown and Gold Coast all have to be broadcasted under law. Foxtel or Ten cant prevent it otherwise legal action by some TV network thing comes in to the channel (not V8s) I remember reading somewhere.

All the while the newspapers are reporting that #10 is looking to buy test cricket to add to their existing BigBash and international coverage

If Ten went under, would 7 or 9 want to pay the current price that TEN does for the "backup" coverage?
Given Foxtel's interests in TEN, Network 10 having the rights fits in best with the current Foxtel Supercars deal, would they get the same co-operation out of 7 or 9? Quote:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-05-2...eement/7437246 The FTA TV deal for V8s is still with Network 10 Quote:
1. It can't happen by law for Bathurst, it must be shown FTA and have priority over PayTV coverage (hence why PayTV has to have ads in their coverage of this race) 2. It would be suicide to completely ditch FTA coverage for streaming. |

Will Ten be bought out by Foxtel to become the free to air version of Fox. Seems that could happen or like you say, old shows. However if Ten does go what does that mean for the current shows, a lot will be screwed over.

Pretty sure its against broadcast ownership laws for Foxtel to own a FTA network.

A few facts
1Bathurst is the only Supercar race on the anti siphoning list.Albert Park and Phillip Island Moto GP are the only other motor sports events on that list. 2The coordination of ad break times on Ten/Foxtel during Albert Park and Bathurst has nothing to do with the list.It is part of the commercial arrangement between Ten and Foxtel for those events.Phillip Island Moto GP which is on the list is shown ad free on Foxtel. 3Media ownership laws mean Murdoch cannot increase his share of Ten above the current 15%. 4The network has only stayed on air because of a line of credit with the Commonwealth Bank which had to be personally guaranteed by the main shareholders. The bank has said it will no longer be willing to continue this arrangement when the current arrangement runs out in a month or two.The other shareholders except for Murdoch and possibly Gordon weren't willing to continue personal guarantee of Ten debt. 5Murdoch is only in this as he thought he saw a way of getting government to modify anti siphoning laws.Ten was to be a Trojan horse for Fox Sports. If he doesn't think this will happen he then has no interest in his 15% 6Ten shares are worth only 1% of what they were 5 years ago. There is no way back.In a world of streaming, pay tv etc it is not viable to have 3 commercial networks in Australia. The other 2 which aren't in great financial shape either would love Ten to fall over as their bottom line would improve. Will Ten go off air?Yes,no,maybe. It is a real possibility. |

an announcement is expected today which may change many of those rules mentioned in the last few posts
the anti siphoning list is to be reduced (however Bathurst 1000 is expected to stay on it) |

Ok. I am not sure if this is good or bad. I am going to say bad at this stage for Foxtel and V8s, shame Ten was allowed to go this far

There have been rumours Cricket Australia has been lobbying to get ODI's and T20 internationals off the list.Dont know if there is any substance. It would put those 2 and Big Bash on Fox with Test's simulcast as per NRL and AFL.

Any anti-siphoning law change to what is & isn't on it would unlikely have any effect on motorsport, as only the 1000, AGP and Phillip Island MotoGP are on it anyway.
All three would be one of the last removed from it anyway, and likely the MotoGP before the other two Quote:
Quote:
Getting ODI's and International T20's off the list sounds like a ploy from CA in retaliation to a story this week about how Channel 9 aren't getting any value out of the current deal they have, and advice that they should seek paying less for the same content next time the rights are up for sale.... if ODI's and T20's can go to Foxtel exclusively, that brings another player into the rights game to potentially drive the price, if Channel 9 want to keep all the Internationals on their channel. |

On paper Foxtel doesn't have effective control over Ten because they are not allowed to, but the deal that allowed Foxtel to take over Ten's advertising department was a complete end-run around the rules...

Big Bash is only a flash in the pan according to a bloke here, not sure why all these TV types are getting that excited about it.
