Yes, there's been talk about that. Still a long way until it's going to be an actual ban and not just a proposal. Lots of companies and other stakeholders that'll want to have a say in that proces. I actually believe it could happen although I doubt it'll be 2030.

Thats exactly what I mean. There's are talks about it, which means its far from reality at this point. Also, with the German economy leaning heavy on the car industry including its suppliers I'd be very surprised if they took a step like this.

Its silly to speculate what consequences it could have for DTM as its so speculative at this point.

After 16 years of competing in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, two-time champion Timo Scheider has now called time on his lengthy spell in the series. He is the only person on the current roster to defend the drivers’ title successfully.

The Team Phoenix driver has 2 titles, 7 race wins, 12 pole positions, 14 fastest laps and 24 podiums to his credit, amassing a total of 518 career points.

...

His decision was as a result of being informed that his contract as a works Audi driver would not be renewed, after 11 years with the Ingolstadt manufacturer.

“I received a call two days ago, which means I am now announcing my retirement from the DTM. This is one of the most emotional moments in my life, being here for 16 years,” he said, saying that he will be announcing his future plans in racing in the near future.

Not a bad time for him to quit, he's had so many years in the series, it's time to move on

Is Felix da Costa also leaving?
I read this weekend is his farewell. I must have missed something previously?

Indeed, da Costa is focusing solely on Formula E. Should be interesting to see who replaces these leaving drivers, and if anyone is removed from current line-ups. Perhaps a couple of exciting young faces could enter but I'm not informed enough to suggest who...

No one is going to replace them. All manufacturers will enter only 6 cars next year.

There was a report about Mercedes likely signing Mortara. Paffett, Auer, Rosenqvist and Wickens are most likely going to continue. That leaves one place open, either for a new driver (Massa?) or di Resta/Vietoris/Götz. Pretty sure Juncadella isn't going to continue

BMW I assume will keep the 6 drivers that haven't announced their retirement from DTM.

Audi will lose Scheider and most likely Mortara. So they could also continue with their 6 remaining drivers, but I could also imagine that they give Rast the chance of a full season. Maybe at the expense of Tambay? But that is just speculation.

Anybody notice the change in Rocky's performance at the last two meetings?

Up to then in the 7 meetings (14 races) he had scored only 5 points, 1 at the opening Hockenheim and 4 at Spielberg then nothing at all until Budapest when he suddenly got his mojo back and was 4th (best of season) and 8th (equal best) and last weekend a 5th place got him another 10 points. In the final race he played a lead role as Mortara's team mate but that caused a late pitstop dropping him to 11th.

5 points from first 14 races then 26 from last 4!

With Audi quitting the WEC, might Joest return to the DTM?

Who knows, but there are going to be only 6 cars per brand in 2017. This means Abt, Rosberg and Phoenix with 2 cars each.

Might not Audi stick to eight if they're saving all that money after canning the WEC?

Wow, a lot of surprises packed into that story. Merc dumping ART and Mucke, MTEK (possibly?) going to WEC for BMW, and Mortara moves to Mercedes.

Yup, and MTEK to leave DTM to run BMW's WEC-programme.

They're looking at improving the race format as well. Probably re-introducing pit stops on Saturday.
And there's been a major dispute behind the scenes apparently.
http://www.motorsport-total.com/wtcc...-16102204.html

According to this, Hans-Werner Aufrecht (Mr. HWA and head of the ITR) who made the deal with SuperGT to share regulations lost out to the manufacturers in the DTM with the new engines. He's then gone and talked to Eurosport about introducing Class One to WTCC and has already convinced Mercedes and two Japanese manufacturers to join in.
Should this happen, I guess it'd be the end of the current DTM.
