The Goodwood Revival 2007

Latest 2007 Goodwood Revival press release:

EXCITING NEW INNOVATIONS BLEND WITH TIMELESS TRADITIONS AT THE GOODWOOD REVIVAL

Never one to rest on his laurels, the Earl of March will introduce a number of exciting new additional attractions to this year’s Goodwood Revival, being held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit from 31 August to 2 September.

Complementing the nostalgic appeal of the world’s most authentic historic motor race meeting will be some innovative features not seen at previous Revival meetings. These will include the redevelopment of the popular Revival period garage into an exciting 1930’s-style art deco building, housing a range of mouth watering machinery in stylish art deco settings, to recreate the automobile showrooms and exhibitions of old. Expect to see a mouth-watering selection of historic Ferrari road cars on display in the showroom to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the celebrated Modena marque. The familiar Revival wooden country garage façade will be relocated behind the Chicane Grandstand area.

Away from these car displays, the inaugural Freddie March Spirit of Aviation ‘concours d’elegance’ for pre-1967 aircraft will bring together around 30 of the world’s finest, most elegant, original and rarely-seen aeroplanes.

This year will see an all-new grid of production-based sports and GT cars of the
mid-1960s. The Fordwater Trophy has always been a name synonymous with road-based racing GTs, and this year, for the first time, it will feature a grid full of rapid racing versions of the popular production sports cars that adorned Europe’s roads and race tracks from the 1963 to 1966. These will cater for a wide variety of cars, from exotic thoroughbreds such as the Porsche 904 and early 911, Ferrari 275GTB, Alfa Romeo TZ1 and rare TZ2, through to the more specialist British sporting vehicles like the Lotus 26R and 47, Marcos 1800GT, Sunbeam Tiger and TVR Griffith, as well as rare specials such as the Elva GT160, Mini Gem GT and Lenham GT. These exciting sports cars will add an interesting new element to the racing and are certain to provide a fabulous dice as they sprint around the circuit.

The press release I posted was consistent - 'cut and pasted' exactly as sent to me by Janet at Goodwood and exactly as the link you posted. (? sorry, confused, only trying to help.)

It's not a real problem Andrew, and I've only trimmed it down and provided the link to the full version. You may recall that full press releases are supposed to be submitted to the PR mods for submission to that forum, and since I have already trimmed others for the same reason, I was merely trying to be consistent. However, I don't think that your message is lost, and I thank you for posting it.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be there; haven't missed one yet. As I said on the 2006 thread, and following my contretemps with my good friend 'bauble' (who sadly no longer posts here) I might celebrate the 10th anniversary of this meeting by actually wearing period attire!

You will note that I left in the reference to the new version of the Fordwater Trophy which should see a great new grid of cars including one of my favourites, the 'pocket rocket' or TVR Griffith as it is better known.

its interesting that he has at last recognised 26R's, less interesting that he has acknowledged Marcos' as I presume they will run with the Volvo engines and I like the idea of the Lenham (wasnt that the one with a wooden tub?) should be a good race as will the TT and of course the saloon car race will include a certain Zeferally

I know I'm biased but the St Marys trophy is nearly always the best to watch, especially if they pick a good grid with evenly matched/prepared cars so the race doesn't string out and look like a procession

Good to see you at the GP last Friday Simon after your qualifying. That age old problem of strong wind blowing across at Copse equals understeer. Looked very tricky!

Next year I'm in charge of holiday plans and I'm not booking anything until I know certain racing dates. I've been trying to go to the Revival for the last 3 or 4 years and it's got stuffed by holidays, kids, work, money... you name it!

Next year, I'm definately there!

You should have been there a week earlier and watched the Nascar at Daytona. I went there two years ago to watch the July race and the noise and spectacle of 43 cars thundering around only 2 yards away from the front seats is unbelievable. This was a night race due to start at 8-00 pm and finish at 11-00pm, or so. Because of rain it didn't start until just after 11 and finished (full distance) after 2-00 am! The yanks are very partisan and cheer their favourites - and also boo those they don't like. They booed one driver at the driver presentation before the race and I asked the guy next to me why. 'He's a faggot' he replied. The next one they booed was Kurt or Kyle Busch and again I asked why. 'He gives it too much mouth' came the reply.
The racing is a bit artificial as they always manage to find a bit of 'debris' on the track with only a few laps to go to close the field up, but when they are racing between caution periods it was as good as anything I've seen anywhere in motor racing in over 50 years.
Yes, I know - this has nothing to do with the thread.

I had a boys dinner last night with a motley collection of South Ken Motor Trader, BRDC committee member, a fellow historic and the producer of a film on the McLaren at Le Mans. The film guy was echoing your sentiments on Nascar....
most of the rest of the conversation was far too libelous to repeat on a forum!

just got back from half a days testing, got a few good runs in the dry, cured an overheating problem ( blocked rad) and then ran for nearly half an hour in the pishing rain so got some good wet practice in too, hairy stuff through Fordwater with wind and rain even in a slow tin top!

thanks to Ian and all the staff for keeping us out all day what with all the changing conditions and spinners!

7k rpm with good max torque within is enough, so the question is how good is the torque of that little blue devil............I hope the same as mine
