Probably an E1-XP class at the Nurburgring first of all, and if they enter it for Le Mans, they will probably have to run it as the 56th unclassified entry.

More than 700hp.. there's no way this is racing at the Nürburgring without being majorly restricted.

I have no idea where this car is supposed to fit in...

it wont be the first time that Porsche race a rare model,year1986 Porsche raced a 959 under the name of 961 at LM24,finished 7th overall behind some strong protos,that time it was in GTX class.

they energy is relesed at a push of the button.

I don't get where this will race, it is not for the gt2 class. ad its not a lmp1 or lmp2, -hesaid it will be a further racing technology lab car, that will race in international motorsport, maybe N24

More importantly for them, car #22 won in 1971 for Porsche at Le Mans and set the distance record that lasted until Audi broke it in the 2010 race.

I just don't understand the purpose of this, why built a race car that dosen't fit in any current regulatory setting? Just because they can?

I understand they want to push the whole hybrid thing but they should have either built a new GT2 based on this or an LMP.

Racing an unclassified car for PR purposes is just lame and very un-Porsche like.

arakis put it well, this car might be a technological test bed for future developments in Porsche road and race cars. And there's no better testing for automotive technology than the racetrack.

well they cant race audi because of inhouse politics, so why not race themselves

maybe aco grants them an experimental entry at le mans, or the ILMC, when they check it isn't fast enough to win overall-I guess a proper ferrari equvalent to this would be the 599xx or the enzo fxx

btw this seems rediculus to me

But the Hybrid was at least partly built to existing regulations, GT3.

The 918 dosen't seem to be so they shouldn't be allowed to race it anywhere other than the Ring where they have a semi-open class. If this thing gets to race at Le Mans it will be a joke.

How about Peugeot or Audi just build a car beyond all rules and chose to race it unclassified? If the car wins, that's all the casual fan will see. It's a cheap way of getting recognition for racing a car that dosen't fit the rules...

If they want to test it they can..on their own test tracks. But if they want to race it, it should comply to the rules.

Please point us to a GT championship that allows a hybrid drivetrain?

The car will be a bit expensive to be raced in GT3 (with necessary performance restrictions)
