monkey head is misunderstanding everithing. Formula Renault 2.0 Asia didnt replaced the Asian Challenge. the teams of Asian Challenge moved to Formula Renault 2.0 Asia that's it. all the teams excepting the frd team, the promoter of Asian challenge. they are like mr godard of f3 and they lost all their teams this year.

it isn't..... Mach3 should have co-operte with AFOS where their team go to 'FR 2.0 Asia', and FRD continue running 'Asian Formula Challenge',but most likely only they left... |

monkey you are misunderstanding. m3 is a team and who is going to co-perate with afos is CFO. that championship will be call formula asia 2.0 and robbed all the teams from frd series.
frd will operate alone 'Asian Formula Challenge' with just their team runing alone. |

'Formula Asia 2.0' -> AFOS, the good/pro championship
'Asian Formula Renault Challenge' -> Frd, the bad/amateur championship |

Monkey Head, in your first post you mention a driver called Gomez and a driver called Kurokawa.
Could you please tell me their first names? |

Formula Asia 2.0 testing, Shanghai
To all of you speculating on the up-coming Asian Formula Renault season, here's an update from this week's Formula Asia 2.0 test sessions at the Shanghai International Circuit, China. I hope my professional role as Press Spokesman for Swedish driver Felix Rosenqvist will provide you with some insight into what's going on at the moment, and give you the chance to fully endorse the season ahead.
First of all, I must make it clear that I did not attend the sessions myself, but will try to express what I've been told from China. The weather in Shanghai has been fairly good, with no unexpected rain showers interrupting running time. Day 1, Tuesday, saw Felix Rosenqvist lead the pack in much the same way as when he won one of last year's AFR races at the venue. However, Swedish compatriot Fredrik Blomstedt kept close to his March3 Racing team-mate all throughout the day. I have been told that the first impression from most drivers attending the test was how difficult the new Michelin tires were in terms of set-up direction for the engineers. With lap times being up to two seconds SLOWER than last year (when Kumho provided the rubber), a lot of time had to be devoted to tyre comparisons and evaluations. Days 2, 3 and 4 continued in much the same way - but Blomstedt upped the pace slightly to lead Felix for a couple of runs. No official times have yet been released, but it seems as though both Swedish youngsters were out-pacing the competition during a majority of the sessions. Felix complained of some uncharacteristic understeer in the Tatuus chassis, although this is likely to have come from a damaged suspension (probably the result of clipping a kerb too hard). Testing and development will continue in the weeks to come, and I guess we are all looking forward to an exciting season! The latest news regarding Formula Asia 2.0 includes a slightly revised calendar, and I do sincerely hope the entire AFOS-scheme will appeal to all Asian - and Swedish - fans. For those interested, Felix Rosenqvist will launch an English language homepage at some point this year. At the moment, the site is available in Swedish only, but please keep visiting in order not to miss any developments. Have a look at www.felixracing.se. All the best /Mattias Persson Felix Rosenqvist Media Contact |

Good to mention that they will run Michelin tyres instead of Kumho
Any idea about the cost of a season in Asian Formula Renault? I guess the association with AFOS will make the championship more international with more races out of China but also will increase the costs ... |

Formula Asia 2.0
I would say the cost level depends a lot on the different deals each driver gets with the relevant team. For a first-year rookie, however, I'd reckon a sum of some €200.000 would be a qualified "guess". As for the association with AFOS, the current regulation framework doesn't say much about how - or if - the resources will be split in terms of prize money, creating an unknown for many participants.
Unfortunately, I can't yet give you any names of the attending drivers at the test. I hope the situation will become clearer in due course, but the time zone difference between China and Sweden makes it hard to quantify and update the news flow. /Mattias |

New AFOS-series seem to bee a lot more expensive than FRD... In 2006 budget needed to do full Asian FR season was way under 100 000 eur (as low as 50-75 thousands, if I remember correctly).

Well, that may be correct in some cases - but 50.000 sounds a bit too cheap. For a European driver, with accomodation and travel costs, I would say the AFOS Championship is closer to 200.000 than 100.000 - especially with two rounds in Malaysia. What the price picture looks like for Asian drivers, I don't know: but of course it's a lot easier when it comes to living and travelling.

I just do not really understand why they are trying to get involved with AFOS ?
it will make the serie more international probably...visiting more countries but that is not really IMHO what drivers are looking for ... they are more looking for a cheap serie where they can learn how to drive a FR2.0 They should concentrate on the same schedule as before, Chinese circuits like Zhuhai,Beijing and Shanghai plus a round in Sepang , and make more promotion about the championship What is the point for AFOS to Promote asian Formula Renault and Formula BMW ... Any calendar available ??? at the moment nothing is mentioned on the AFOS website.... Last edited by META4; 2 Mar 2008 at 12:40. |

yes but nothing about the"NEW" Championship
I do not see how 2 Asian formula renault series can be organised ... To be honest if i had 200.000 Euros i would prefer to race in Europe, doing Formula Renault NEC or WEC Spanish F3 or even the new Japanese Formula 3 National Class and racing on prestigious tracks like Suzuka,Motegi,Fuji ... i am pretty sure you can find decent drives for this amount of money Last edited by META4; 2 Mar 2008 at 13:07. |

I don't see how the "new" championship would cost more then FRD....
seems that will join 5 races in China (with CFO?) and 2 in Malaysia so no reason to be more expensive |

team join afos cause frd was corrupt in the last years racing with their team against the rules. And afos is international and frd is just china. in years afos will be like eurocup with chinese, malasyan, indonesians, singaporeans, indians and arabics profesional racing driver alike europe. asians drivers want asia championships and we are gonna get that. frd is a good championship for new chinese drivers and gentleman drivers.i cant how the costs are going up if the calender is going to be allmost same.
mattias is true March3 gonna race a separate team for young chinese? |
