Some good teams still without drivers announced, like Strakka, Lotus, Tech 1, Carlin. I know it´s still a long time till the season starts but....

Why the continual negativity towards the series everyine?
It's like everyone wants it to fall over! I am sure there's still quite a few GP2 , GP3 and F3 seats going begging aren't there? |

nah, they just want to be able to say "i told you so"
it's hard to tell where there's a genuine empty seat, where there's a driver counting out his pennies to send back with his contract, or where there's someone signed and paid for but they haven't said it out loud yet. i tend to agree with autosport's "glass half full" column this week - it's looking pretty good, all things considering. i *still* blame the economic conditions 5 or so years ago stopping a decent number of drivers taking their next steps, and thus we have a shortage of drivers at a "series with 3 in the title" stage in their career. gp2 will see this in 2017/8 too, and the usual suspects will be hand-wringing then. |

Word I am getting is that "people" just don't want to do it, the direct link to F1 is not seen now, just what Bernie wanted when he insisted Renault withdrew their backing. He now has his own ladder although I don't see what benefit it brings him

The feeling out there is that it will become some kind of 3.5 Spanish championship. If it's not this year, It might happen in the short term. Just look which teams joined so far and how many were already in EuroF3

They could run at Barca, Jerez, Aragon, Valencia and Jarama plus Navarra, Portimao in Portugal and then traditional venues for the series like Ricard, Nurby, Monza and maybe Silverstone or Donington. It will need to keep some pan euro rounds that F1 runs at to ensure drivers keep looking at it as a viable option. |

Heard today that less drivers than announced actually signed and paid (9 was the quote) and series in danger of being cancelled. Anyone heard anything else?

Heard similar story from a figure who works for the team that folded, but still is on virtual entry list. I believe you can say the same story about most formulas above F4 I think. It's late in off season and there are teams without drivers in GP2, F3 infamously ofc, FV83.5...
Formulahistory, that's 9 out of 11 that we know has signed. |

Man, I can't believe it! Who would have thought? At first with this great car nobody thought that Renault's withdrawal will create such a huge problem.
Now it's one month before the first race and there were just 3 cars testing and from the pictures on Twitter it seems like Kanamaru was shaking down 2 of those cars for Teo Martin. If Atoev pulls out, then the whole thing is going down. Let's hope he stays, but if SMP pulls - that's 3 cars(Orudzhev, Atoev + funding Vaxiviere's seat)! And how is this good for anyone? It's only good for Bernie & co, he will pump up again the GP2 budgets and cash on billionaire dads. Talent is secondary... I don't think that the single-seater ladder on the top has looked in such a bad shape, ever! Even during the last F3000 days. |

Rumours that Comtec and Tech 1 are withdrawing have gained traction as well. Roy Nissany is supposed to be signing with Lotus\Charouz, but other than that I haven't heard of any potential drivers running 3.5 this season.

Tech 1 already sold the cars to Cipriani! Comtec couldn't find drivers before this crisis, so... no chance.
Charouz is focused on GTs It's probably 6-7 cars right now... + Cipriani, who would be better off in BOSS. |

So that's: -SMP Racing 2x - Pons 2x - Fortec 2x - AV Formula 2x - Teo Martin 2x - Arden 2x - Lotus/Charouz 2x - Strakka 2x Makes 16 cars. Will Cipriani compete aswell in 3.5? or only BossGP/AutoGP? Otherwise it's already 18 cars, that's still enough for a good championship, right? So Comtec, Tech1 & Carlin stop? What about Draco? |

Don't think all if those on your list really exist anymore. Some announced drivers but they are subject to budget which isn't there

JD, one of the Spanish teams that you've listed doesn't exist anymore. Another team is conditional, Strakka & RP don't have signed drivers and Teo Martin has 1.
If there's a 10 car grid, you can bet several drivers will jump ship to GP2, GP3 or F3. |

What I expect:
Arden with Orudzhev and Panis AVF with Dillmann and Celis Fortec with Deletraz and Fittipaldi Pons with Bosak and Visser SMP with Atoev and Vaxivière Pons with Kanamaru and another guy Cipriani with Cipriani and another guy That makes 14 cars. Charouz probably stays, so I expect 16 cars at least. Yes, Cipriani also confirmed him as driver. |

Pons is an open secret, may be for over a month or more. Cipriani buying Tech 1 cars is on many sites, I think also on Italiaracing because they tweeted buying the cars or smth.
Teo Martin seems to be the only team actively testing. Do we have any dates for official testing before the first race? |

Formulahistory's name is a little ironic given he forgot what happened in the silly season so far...or was that just a typo?
Pons' lineup was announced several weeks ago: http://www.paddockscout.com/visser-a...5-season/33070 Kanamaru was announced at Teo Martin Motorsport around the same time: http://www.paddockscout.com/yu-kanam...3-5-team/33066 It's possible one of these deals relied on money that hasn't arrived, of course, but we haven't heard anything from those teams to say otherwise. |
