Daytona 500

Well, I've decided to go to watch the rednecks turn left a lot.
I know the response will be limited but if anyone feels the urge to come along, let me know and I'll give you the, as yet, sketchy details.

If you are going in 2002, book hotels etc quick as Speedweek sells out fast. There are quite a few hotels on Daytona Beach but that is 20 - 30 min drive from the circuit at normal times.

I was looking at the idea of doing the 24 hour again.

Dear Mr Willetts,
As per our earlier email communication i'd like to confirm my interest in the plan we spoke about. Please reserve one place on the trip in the name of Antill.

Yours, etc.

Craig Antill.

SL, if you're making up a party for the 24 Hours of Daytona, count me in! I watched that on TV this year and it's great warm-up for Le Mans.

The Daytona 500, according to my new Performance Racing News requires a minimum ten night reservation at a place nearer than Tennessee which is a minimum of $1,500.00. This is no matter how long you stay. Considering that this is more than the three-day trip to Le Mans cost me, I believe I must pass on the Daytona 500.

Why not stay in Orlando, there's plenty of (fairly cheep) hotel space. Ok, so it's a 50 mile drive but it's a straight fast road all the way. Worked just fine for me a few years back.

I would agree with the Orlando idea, there is also quite a few smaller towns on the way to Daytona as well. Book and pay for the hire car in from the UK as it is cheaper. At the moment Alamo offer the best rates.
You can fly direct to Orlando with BA or Virgin, quite a few charter airlines fly to Sanford, just outside Orlando as well.

Say hello to Mickey when you see him. Invader, if you are feeling particularly flush there's always the Richard Petty Experience at Disney.

I'm a bit of a seasoned veteran when it comes to Florida so I have covered all of the angles ( I think). Keep the ideas coming though, I won't know everything until I'm as old as my Granny.

Seems like the 10 Tenths party will consist of me, Invader, Lee and Lorna... at least the British contingent... any of the natives going to be there and fancy meeting up for a beer ?

Also, what else is going on in the area over the course of the weeks surrounding the race ? Anything the visiting motorsport fan should know about ?

So, no takers, huh? Shame. (You may want to consider posting a quick ? in the Nascar/Ascar forum - a lot of the folks over there rarely check outside that forum as far as I can tell).

Now, if you were heading out west and made it to Colorado...

Craig, I hope you've done your research and got the lowdown on Speedweeks. From what I understand, it's 5/6 weeks full on!
