PWR & KELLY: how much ($) do Holden put in

Having followed recent threads about the sponsorship PWR & Kelly (K Mart) have, something does not add up to me.

No way Kees Weel picks up all the bills, nor Kelly. They didn't make a dollar by throwing money away.

Suggestions (?) that Castrol put in big money at K Mart, they rank #2 on the website. K Mart are not big time based on the size of the ad on the web site.

Both Weel & Kelly stepped up quickly to help sort the TWR problem & get the cars back on the track.

Many members of this forum insinuate they have the good oil - please advise.

Please no cloak & dagger stuff: if you know please let us know, if you dont & or are guessing, adding one & one, whatever - just preface your comments with where you are coming from.

Have a go, it is Boxing Day nearly !!!

Paul Weel makes the radiators for all of the v8 Teams, and a lot of the lesser formulas.. they make millions out of that as far as i know (remember how they used to run K and J Thermal on Pauls car).. Im pretty sure a V8 cooling system is around 20,000 a pop... every time a car has a frontal impact of reasonable size, it needs a new system..

You have 32 front series cars, 20 konica ones... Add to that the Carrera Cup, etc (unsure whether Weel services them too), and you have a big number of customers and your making big bucks...

Chandlers chip in some money towards PWR, and im pretty sure a fair chunk of the funding comes from the profits of the K and J Thermal group.. Holden may provide maybe 20% - 30% of the funding to the team...

How much they have as a yearly budget is anyones guess !!

As for the Kellys.........

Daddy has a very large pocket (made 20 Million out of a subdivision project in Mildura alone)... and is a property developer.. I would expect that Kmart put about 30% into the team (via its own branding), 20% Castrol, 25% Holden, and 25% Mr 'rich sugar daddy' Kelly..

It could be a similar deal to Ellerys Supercheap deal where the supercheap branding was there, and then some of the products that supercheap sell were on the car as part of the deal (Castrol)..

I has a suspicion that the Castrol and Kmart deal would be together, with Kmart Paying 50% of the teams bill, but Castrol accounting for 20% or 30% of the 50%.

This means in essesnce that Kmart only provide around a quarter of the funding, and their loss could be covered by Kelly Snr out of his own pocket.
________________________________________________________________________

I would say that Holden put about 20-30% of the teams total yearly budget. When someone figures out hwo much it costs for a two car team for a year, we can have a figure.

would 10 - 15 Million for the year be underestimating it ?

I'm pretty sure K&J Thermal was sold before the Weel's jumped into a two car deal. Paul Weel Radiators is the only business thats is still owned by the Weel's and this is the business that supplies the radiators.

You're right Ozfords, Kees sold K & J over a year ago. The new company he and Paul run is PWR Performance Products which i believe will get quite big.

No that is different again. The race radiator business is a separate entity and is run by Paul as far as i know. That is not to say that they aren't sold through the PWRPP business though.

K&J was sold prior to the two car deal, for what I could only imagine was a huge ammount. K&J had very recently prior to the sale signed a contrtact with Holden to supply trans oil coolers and radiators to the car maker (this could be part of the reason why Paul is racing a Holden now).

Have a look at http://www.pwr.com.au/pwr/ to see what PWRPP offers, radiators, Alcon brakes, intercoolers and oil coolers. I dont think it costs $20K to cover a new radiator for a V8SC, maybe $2K, maybe! And that would include the eng oil cooler (fitted into the radiator tanks). I believe Kees was the first person in Australia to operate an aluminium radiator machine.

UNCONFIRMED--I did hear a story that the ATO carried out an investigation into the taxes paid by Mr Weel's (Snr) company and found an ammount with six zeros, preceeded by a figure between two and four, was required to correct the payment discrepencies. The ammount was paid on the spoot with a cheque!

I do believe the Kelly Building company had a hand in the fitting out of the new HRT building five or so years ago, around about the time the brothers became more prevalent in the eyes of those who were deciding who would be the teams drivers. Also unconfirmed.

Does anyone know anything?

The Symbol factory is embroiled in such an incestuous path, it is highly unlikely that any information with a foundation in truth in this regard will be coming forward any time soon.....
