WSBK to Barber in 2008?

Come on Jhansen, pull your wallet if you wanna have a WSBK round in the US, they still need some funding...

I'm not real keen on this. The track is pants. But, I will be happy to have a U.S. WSBK round. Just wish it were closer. Especially seeing that Laguna will most likely lose Moto GP to Indy. Seeing as WSBK really has my interest lately, I'd love to see them in person.

I can think of a better bike to use on a road trip...

I don't see Road America getting WSBK either. Hadn't heard about WSBK money though. The new track in Utah could be used. Except the location is less than great.

Barber is very scenic for sure. It just doesn't produce great bike racing, at least not in the AMA. Of course then again, great racing doesn't happen very often in the AMA...

Wasn't any Indy MotoGP race meant to be in addition to the Laguna round?

True. But Laguna is in doubt, due to the way they are running the race. The track just can't manage that amount of people. Not to mention, the botched pave job. Plus the facilities at Indy dwarf Laguna. We shall see. This is the last year of Laguna's three-year exclusive deal. They have two years remaining. But not sure how the contract is worded. Dorna probably has a get-out clause.

Laguna has been resurfaced again so I have heard.

I know nothing about Barber, will they not have the problems you describe about Laguna? Is it a safe place (apart from it being in Alabama, so if Jeff Gordon wins the track will be litered with beer cans)

I have not been to Barber personally. I believe they have a few more changes scheduled to make it safer. The owner deserpately wants a world championship event hosted there. As for logistics, I have no idea.

A good summary here on the state of a U.S. WSBK round in '08.

http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2007/Jul/e/n070705b.htm

I find it interesting that two rounds are possible!

Road America has made safety changes and the track's George Bruggenthies says Elkhart still wants a World Championship event. The scenic Wisconsin circuit would be an ideal host for World Superbike. The track has a distinct European feel, and two dubious areas of the track—The Kink and the Billy Mitchell Bridge area—have been modified.
See, told you.

According to this report WSBK is to race at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

I don't know the track, anybody know if it is any good?

The track is good. It will remind you of Qatar. However, the place is in the middle of nowhere. And Utah aint exactly a motorbike mecca. So I don't know about this choice.

FGSport are expected to announce news on the 2008 calender at Brands Hatch. Rumours are Turkey and Portugal will be included.

I saw a blurb yesterday stating that Miller Motorsports Park is almost a done deal. Surprising.
