I'll put it in the diary and hope Shelsley and our next stage production don't clash. If not this will be my first choice meeting.

I was going to suggest, but didn't expect to do so quite this early, that people might like to organise themselves into groups for next year, certainly for flagging/observing.

We'd need at least 15 groups of three people (but 20 of four or more would be better). Each group to cover two adjacent flag points by day, reducing to one through the night. Work out you own night rota and catering (and I'll eat all the pies).

What do you think?

So if we get our trios/quads organised early do we get to choose which post we're on? We could then set up camp behind the post and never have to be bothered by spotlights on Copse runway or quad bikes & scooters at all hours.

I nearly went so far as to suggest this but all I can say at this stage is if you put in a request we'll see what we can do. I'll need to check with the circuit about camping behind your post - there's some I can think of where it might be a problem.

That's the same weekend as the final round of the BTCC at Brands Hatch.

just 2 days ago i guessed at the dates as we were putting next years hols in at work, i was only out by a week so i feel a nice word on monday to the boss will be order.
its funny, i had to be persuaded to come to the 24hr 2 years ago and now its one of the first things i stick my name down for and even managed to convince a few guys to come this year and they all loved it.

for anyone who reads the thread who has not done this event before, i would say throw out any pre-conceptions you have about the weekend as they will probably be wrong, yes its long hours and it is tiring but the amazing support races, the chance to see top class gt racing through the night (and if you think the drivers ease off and you have nothing to do once it goes dark you are seriously mistaken) and the way you are treated by james tucker, the eerc crew and even the teams is amazing, dont think i ever remember being given drinks, food and a place to sit and rest by a race team in thier garage at any other event in the uk!!! i can prattle on about it all night but if you can trust a fellow marshal it is something you will do once and get the bug, just give it ago!!!

If you put all of the Oulton mob together we could man one or two posts. Between us we have a graded observer (or we would if a certain scouser puts his card in!); at least one flaggie; and a lot of very experienced incident marshals. How about it guys?
And I'll do a BBQ & curry like the GP.

This gives me a problem as I've already said I'd do the Pitlane again? Quite happy to be on post with the Oulton crowd if necessary though!!!!!!!!!!

Same weekend as the BTCC final... I know, I regualaly contribute to their forum and I was going to go to a lot of their meetings this year until I discovered marshalling. All I can say is see you at the 24 hour in 2008., much more fun

PieMan,

Put the PieLady and Bill down for same duties as last year - at least during the 24 Hrs (and assuming there will be pies). Also happy to stuff bags (goody or lunch) again (I'm a glutton for punishment)!

Despite knackering the ankle, I would be happy to do assembly again on Friday/Saturday should you be short of more experienced types. Otherwise more than happy to flag/observe.

As has been said elsewhere, this really is an EVENT and the atmosphere is terrific. It can only improve with increased numbers thereby letting everyone have not only sleep time but time to wander around the pit lane/paddock area and soak up the vibes.

Hopefully the Top Gear coverage of this year's race will demonstrate how much fun it is.

You can add my name to that too - should have my upgrade through by then if the normal MSA turnaround time is anything to go by (sent in a month ago).

Should we be thinking of post we'd prefer, or do we just request a couple next to each other, wherever they may be?

At least you will not need to do any fire training this year.

Won't sorting people out into teams that they wan't to be in cripple the all round friendly atmosphere?
Surely half the fun is working with someone new? Or is that just me?
