New Safety Car Rules.

As mentioned by Brundle briefly yesterday the SC rules are going to change. (the official announcement is imminent)

The lights won't go out a whole lap before it pulls in so drivers don't get ready early.

Also the pits will be closed for the firstlap to stop racing to the pits when there is a problem on the track.

Not sure about the lights not going out until the car goes into the pitlane - won't this mean that the cars will be bunched up and warming tyres/brakes near the end of every lap just in case??

I'd have thought so. Perhaps they should have just told the drivers to be careful in the next briefing?

Hmm, so instead of risking another accident under SC they're willing to risk accidents happening at 300+ km/h, in corner 1, because the drivers are on cold tyres and brakes. Hoohah, FIA strikes again!

But imagine the TV watcher's fun:
SC approaching pit lane, "Bob: Joe, 1 quid it goes out this lap" "Joe: no it doesn't, I'll double that"

There is absolutely no need for this knee-jerk reaction. It's not like anyone even got hurt in the first incident behind a safety car EVER (in F1). The constant ajustments and changes are unnecessary.

It's a sensible move closing the pits - and the safety car hasn't done a whole lap with the lights off for many years.

I agree...knee jerk reactions are not required.

FIA has this problem of trying to change the rule/regulation/system with every incident..and even if it solves a problem, it creates a whole new list.

Drivers need the advanced knowledge to warm their tyres back to operating temperature..otherwise things may get nasty when the cars are thrown back into the heat of the race.

What about views on pitlane being closed the moment SC is deployed? It would mean an end to mad-dash Cart style pitstop mayhem a pity?

CART close their pitlane too, until the whole field is lined up behind the safety car.

That's what creates your "mad-dash pitstop mayhem".

A good move.

Whoops...

But no more outwitting of opponents...eg like Renault using the opportunity to make a quick "free" stop.

For example, if this rule was in place at Monaco, the odds would be MS would have taken victory. So does the new rule imposed kill off hopes of outwitting rivals or do people think it's actually fairer as nobody could steal a "Free" pitstop that virtually costs no time?

Anyway, i find it strange that FIA thinks cars running at too quick a pace behind safety cars. Drivers are complaining safety cars are too slow

I don't like what the FIA are doing insomuch as they're dumbing down F1 too much! James Allen has already done enough to spoil the sport, but to think that I people won't watch races because they get confused at the strategy that's going on when the safety car comes out is silly.

What's the other reasoning behind the move to stop people going into the pits other trying to alienate F1 fans?

This proposed rule change has been abandoned for the moment.
