Fag advertising in Europe

Just noticed that everyone is running with full fag branding.

The GP is in Germany and classed as the European GP, I understand the fags become outlawed in 2005/2006 (up for debate) but when in Europe I thought they had to run with alternate advertising,

eg the David/Kimi west, the Luckies BAR, the Marlboro triangle without the wording ?

Whats going on ?

I think it depends on the certain country they are in although the EU have said it should be banned but i cant remember if it is a date to come or a date already set!

In Germany it's always been a gentleman's agreement.

They've run full fag branding at Nurburgring and Hockenheim for the past few years.

Does cigarette advertising really work, if anyone here is a smoker tell us if F1 advertising makes a difference.

Just because ferrari are sponsored by marlboro does not make me want to start smoking.

Does any F1 advertising work? I don't smoke but I wouldn't buy an Orange or Vodaphone mobile or a Dell computer just because they are on the sides of these cars.

doesn't make you want to buy them but it does make you aware they exist,

eg: I'm looking for a new phone, what shall I get, oooh I saw Vodofone on ferrari I wonder what they do, they then sell the same deal as say t-mobile but you get a free ferrari shirt because they are allowed to use the ferrari image = more customers.

If your a smoker....Hmmmm I see Marlboro do a fag, I think I'll give that a try instead of West...

If sponsorship and advertising didn't work, the companies involved wouldn't do it.

its brand awareness - fag sponsorship is not to make you start smoking but to make smoker change brand - As BAR have a cool/alt image then luckies are associated with that.

I don't smoke Marlboro because of their sponsorship choice.

I'm not sure I've come across an F1 car that has forced me to have a cigerette yet. You know one that has strapped me to the chair, put a cig in my mouth, lit it and made me inhale.

I'm a Ferrari fan...but tobacco sponsoring did NOTHING to even make me ever think of smoking...

15 years of F1...i'm still a non-smoker.

I think, generally, sponsorship is more of increasing awareness of a brand, and if you actually require similar service/product, would you be slightly swayed by the product associated with the winning or your favourite team.

But otherwise, it does really little else. I support Ferrari and Shell, but my family car still uses Mobil, my PC's still using Intel and that my printer is HP.

Oh..and i was thinking of changing my BS standard tires to a set of Michelin Sports.... *ouch*

How many of us use Optimax becuse of F1, I will admit I tried it due to the radio ads but I wasn't aware that Ferrari are sponsored by Shell until I heard the ads

I wouldn't buy an AMD PC only because they sposor Ferrari. However I do smoke Marlboro since uhmm... 96 or 97 (previously I smoked Lucky Strike). And yes, I put Shell in my car.

I wonder about the brand-less liveries. I mean, everyone knows the ciggie brands even if the branding is absent. The colours and the designs are still there even if the letters are not.
