How come Oriol's tyres had red sides?

All tyres, now that I see it (it's hard to not get any coverage...)

The red sides show they're running the softer compound.

They had to run two sets of those at any point during the race I believe.

Macdaddy, you can use them for your desktop wallpaper. I do. ;-)

Uesque, it's a D100.

Racegypsy, well I'll be. Had I known...

Everyone, I don't mind sharing them with this great group (except maybe Indycool). Just kidding IC.

Jeff,

Great job as usual!

Hey, next time at Laguna try my "secret spot" at the top of the hill outside of Turn 6.

The sequence showing Phlippe's accident is quite interesting... Is the front left suspension of his Lola slightly offset before impact? Why is he staring so much to his left rear mirrow? (maybe ths front suspension had a failure, and he though someone had knocked him off track instead?)

Cheers,

Muzza

Looks to me like the left rear suspension has collapsed, considering how the nose of the car is 'tilted' slightly upwards in the earlier shots. Would perhaps also explain why he's looking in his left mirror so much.

Just an observation though - since I didn't get the race on TV I'm not sure what they said during the race coverage etc

Edit: Almost forgot - thanks for the images Jeff!

Yeah, Rusty, that's what it seems, isn't it?

Philippe was interviewed upon returning to the pits and he seemed surprised with the accident, saying that he just could not control the car and went straight into the barriers.

If you look athe the first 3 images, the front wheels are pointing in different directions (toe in). By the 4th image (my desktop wallpapar now) the car had settled down & doesn't look like he had a rear suspension failure. Chris Mower, from Conquest, emailed me with his phone #. He wanted me to send him the full resolution originals. He told me that Nelson had contact with Masacane, in the corkscew, ealier in that lap. He said he had an idea what hapened, but wanted the pictures to have a closer look at the front suspension.

I finally watched my race tape, this morning & they barely caught him going into the tires. They had about a second of the contact with Masacane. They totally missed Paul Tracy's off, in turn 2. He was backwards, before I got the first shot of him.

As for him looking in the left mirror, I think he's really looking at the track.
