Glad to see he's getting some recognition, it's a travesty how little he receives especially as he's probably our most successful world champion in any sporting arena.

I remember reading a sports review at the end of last year and the motorsport section consisted of Hamilton and a kid riding in the 125 championship! Shocking to leave out someone who'd effectively won their 4th world championship in a row!

Indeed, and I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few media voices would be rised that it's unfair that Hamilton didnt get one
Media most of the time is just a flock of mindless sheep.

Chuffed for Andy, some official recognition from the state of his achievements which are quite simply outstanding.

Can't seem to access the link on the bottom of the website.

Congrats all the same. I don't see how it will affect how well he does in the 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award but I am chuffed he has finally got something for all the WTCC drivers championship awards. He has to rank among one of the most succesful British drivers in motorsport history. About time he did get something.

Great news for Andy, and for the WTCC and non-F1 motorsport in general. In Britain we're usually much quicker to honour gallant losers than actual champions, so this is a nice change.

I don't think kristof14 was suggesting that this will do anything to the BBC SPOTY award. The point he was making was that as far as mainstream media is concerned, motorsport starts and ends with F1. Lewis wins a race and it's banner headlines splashed across every paper and news bulletin, Andy is four times FIA champion and doesn't even get a mention.

Precisely what I was trying to say, unfortunately Touring cars is very much 3rd in terms of 4 wheeled motorsport behind F1 and WRC. If I hadn't been in work today I'd have been trying to ring 5Live to make sure he got a mention as I'm still yet to see his name appear in any major media outlet.

Am I right to think that in terms of world championships in his sport he's the most successful active competitor in the world?

I think that honour goes to Sebastian Loeb with 4 WRC titles. Andy has 4 titles but only 3 are world championships.

Of course it does, although, I always think of his ETCC triumph as counting although obviously it doesn't.

Well, Tony Rickardsson, participating & currently 2nd in Scandinavian CC, is 6 time WC in Speedway. Of course he changed from 2 to 4 wheels, but it's still high end competitive motorsports.

I am afraid you two may have misunderstood what I said.

What I said wasn't in refference to a particular post. What I said I suppose was said as a statement of fact. That indeed I don't expect his MBE to affect the likelyhood of him even getting close to being recognised as indeed as far as 4-wheeled motorsport in the BBC is concerned it always does begin with F1 and end with WRC with nothing between.

What if we all did outside of BBC Television Centre, what the truckers did do about the price of fuel?

Not quite sure how everyone missed Valentino Rossi...

2005: MotoGP world champion
2004: MotoGP world champion
2003: MotoGP world champion
2002: MotoGP world champion
2001: 500 MotoGP world champion

2000: 2nd, 500 MotoGP World Championship
1999: 250 GP world champion 1998: 2nd, 250 MotoGP World Championship
1997: 125 GP world champion 1996: 9th, 125 MotoGP World Championship
1995: 125cc Italian Champion
1994: 125cc Italian Sports Production Champion
1993: 3rd - 125cc Italian Sports Production Championship
1992: Regional Minimoto Champion
1991: 4th - Italian Junior Go-Kart Championship
1990: Regional Go-Kart Championship - 9 wins
1989: First Go-Kart Race

Now, admittedly, it slipped his mind to win the World title in the last 2 seasons, but all the same...

None of which takes away from Andy that he's being recognised for his superb achievements... and for the huge amount he and wife Jo do fund-raising for charity for premature babies...
