[LM24] Road to Le Mans - Dempsey's documentary

Discovery's Velocity channel will broadcast a four-part documentary named Road to Le Mans. It will show Patrick Dempsey's adventure as a driver and team owner at the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans. Here's AP's cable.

Also, according to this press release on the 2012/13 season, each part is 60 minutes long. As far as I recall, Velocity has short shows because their audience don't have enough time to watch television for longer.

I said it a while ago in another thread when the Le Mans website said he'd be at the race in 2013. Apparently if you are a C-list Hollywood actor that trumps any number of other capable teams out there.

If the WEC continues to progress LMP2 could be even more hotly-contested next year, but this guy just waltzes in. That is unless he plans to do the WEC himself?

If the team is committed to either the WEC or ALMS and lodges an entry for Le Mans, I don't see any reason why the ACO won't accept the entry. Whether or not the team is more worthy of it than other teams that might miss out is another matter, and it's all a matter of personal preferences.

Lets not pretend that the ACO is not in need of good publicity and in todays economic situation anything that generate interest in the race and draws in new groups of paying spectators will always get special treatment and to be honest I would act in exactly the same way

Don't get me wrong I think this documentary will give some great publicity to the race. It will open it up to a new set of fans.

It's just the the presumption of the entry. But then again that's why the ACO are particularly vague in their selection criteria and I think even have a line in their about entries which benefit the race.

The ACO is the guardian of the race and a few spaces on the grid for new works teams, new idea's and publicity generating entries are part of that.

Because it's going to be airing mid-2013, could it be actually filmed this year? The press release is confusing. I know, there's no entry for his team in this year's race, but that is irrelevant for the show if he is still going to be a driver in some team.

Interesting. Haven't picked any news on that but Hindy did mention on Saturday's ALMS broadcast that Patrick's "next race" will be on 16-17th of June at LM... not sure where he'd find a seat, probably GTE-AM...

Anyway as you said that wouldn't be very relevant with the show itself, I guess they'll just film it in 2013 and air the show a few months later.

BTw I don't see this entry being any less deserving than Audi's fourth car...

Only seat that might be available is at JMB... or at AF Corse if Cioci moves to the 71 Pro car.

I heard that too regarding Le Mans this year. Thought he'd made a bit of a mistake but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.
