Graham should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Marcus,

Please tell me more. What's a sprint car? And where do they race?

Do you know whether any of it is televised in Blighty?

Sprinting over here is a timed run over a certain distance or course (sometimes on a proper circuit). You don't 'race' against others in the normal sense. Is this similar?

Sprintcars are real beasts Im pretty sure they race them in most places around the world..they race on dirt tracks and have around 800hp and are the most exciting machines in the world...

hopefully this pic works so you can see what they look like.

hope this helps ya graham...if you want more info just shout.

Meanwhile Donny Shatz has continued his winning streak by taking victory in every round to date to take his record to six straight wins..which gives him a huge lead in the points table.

1.Donny Shatz 6000
2.Trevor Green 3390
3.Brooke Tatnell 3310
4.Skip Jackson 3000
5.Max Dumesny 2830

Marcus,

Yes, I've seen those on TV - mostly American sprint cars and (funnily enough with dirt tracks and open wheels) on crash videos

Someone from Blighty please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the nearest to that here is Autograss where nutters in (usually) Minis and Mk2 Escorts hare around a muddy oval in a farmer's field.

I've watched Autograss loads of times - great fun, especially with so many Minis

Thanks for putting me straight. Bye.

Just noticed something...

Surely you great Oz blokes haven't fallen into the reprehensible practice of having "World Series" everything, where either only one country or (on a good day) three countries take part?

Like "World Series Baseball". Does any country other than America and Canada compete in that?
Where are the other 150-odd countries?

Graham I havent heard of autograss before but sprintcars have heaps of power and if you ever get the chance to go see them give it a go you wont be disapointed...anyway as for the world series thing...we have world series cricket wich has 3 or 4 teams competeing in it at once...and as for the sprinters it is not classed as a nationality thing its just open for drivers from all over the world to compete in ..and we often get alot of Americans coming down here..

Marcus,

Autograss has a Class A(?) championship for V8 unlimited specials, but I doubt any could boast 800hp. I'd think it would be a distinct handicap on what is basically a muddy field - just couldn't put the horses down...

Autograss is spectacular without so much power because of the lovely slides and dicing all down the field. Handling wins the day.

Know any good sites for Sprintcars?

Here's the official Autograss Association site:
http://www.national-autograss.uninet.co.uk/

Do you have lawnmower racing over there - surely you must with the excellent Victa hailing from Oz shores?

Cheers,
Graham

Sprint cars, outlaw winged or champ car non-winged, are some of the most exciting forms of motorsport anywhere. A local guy here in Tulsa, Tommy Estes Jr., holds the track record for average speed at Eldora's 1/2 mile track at 137 mph. That is scary fast when you are travelling sideways on a dirt surface.

For the European fans, an engine using the same 7.0 liter block will be powering the Team Oreca open top sports car at LeMans this year that won the 1999 World of Oulaws National Sprint Car Champioship for Mark Kinser. It was rumored to produce over 900 hp and 850 ft-lbs. of low end torque.

Keep us informed how the sprint car season is going down under. I'm a big fan of Brooke Tatnell when he raced here in the US this last year. He's a class racer.
