bathurst77 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
pointless driver

Heres a question for the statistic freaks

What driver in history had the longest f1 career but never scored a point in his whole f1 career? How many races did he start?

Im asking because i want to know.

Having come so close in only his 3rd race with a 7th in a Lola at the 1993 San Marino GP.

Came so close, especially when running 4th in the 1999 European, before his gearbox cried enough. Shows he was a good driver

it shows that nurburgring 99 remains some of the wackiest races in the history, certainly the wackiest i have witnessed.at some point even my cousin was driving 4th. which is strange because i dont even have a cousin thats how crazy that race was.

It was heartbreaking to see him break down - mechanically and emotionally - at the Nürburgring in ‘99. My gf wept. But he proved pretty hopeless when he subbed for Massa.

Yeah, but that was 10 years later and he was already 40 I believe. It was a mistake to get him in the first place. Anyway he was a decent driver, he doesn't really deserve this "title". (At least he was a very good tester, he did a good job at Ferrari.)

Even Penelope Pitstop led the race at some point!

True, but he wasn’t just a bit off the pace, he was qualifying a Ferrari at the back of the grid while his team mate was at the pointy end. I’d have had more sympathy if he’d been in the midfield.

To be fair, that was always going to happen. He'd been out of racing for 10 years, was 40 years old and had never driven the circuit before. He was given that drive as a thank you retirement gift really. So, as an Italian driver he could say he raced for Ferrari in F1. The championships were already lost for Ferrari, so it didn't matter.

I doubt Enzo would have taken that view.

Enzo also had the view that a car was more important than the drivers life, and that aerodynamics were for people who can't build engines. So to be honest, I doubt that would've come into it.
