"began competing in single seaters and has enjoyed recent success in the Abarth Trophy series" according to WTCC. The Abarth series was back in 2015 but he won at Vila Real then.
He has a good success rate there but never against the highest quality (even in ETCC) |

The question is how good is this 3rd LADA.
Every once in awhile a girl craves her fairy tale ending. So sleep tight, kiddies. |

Remind me what the purpose of barriers is again?

Unbelievable that this is possible in a FIA World Championship... Utterly ridiculous.

That is just something that could have been avoided. Have the FIA not learned from Bianchi's fatal crash?

It's something that's been used successfully in Rallycross and Super TC2000.

Joker laps are perfectly acceptable for an FIA 'championship' which is essentially a joke.

Huff must be kicking himself after letting race 2 get away from him.
There were more position changes than last year because of the joker lap, but it provided no excitement whatsoever. Instead of trying to actually pass each other on track, drivers were just waiting for the joker and doing it then. To me that is more boring than not seeing any overtaking at all. It takes no skill. Whenever a series introduces a gimmick like this, they're just saying "we've failed". They've failed to put together a calendar which contains circuits where it's possible to overtake, so they introduce this. Much in the same way that F1 failed to produce a set of regulations that enables the teams to build cars which are capable of overtaking each other, so they came up with DRS. It's all rubbish. And, my God, Michigami is shite. Have you ever seen such a poor performance from a works driver? |

Ahh, the sweet S2000 glory days. When we were complaining about the cars and discussing how much we missed the Supertouring glory days...

Joker laps in a touring car championship? Jesus christ that's depressing.
WRX works with jokers because the races are super short and chaotic. In WTCC, that's a complete joke. Time for some twitter fan boosts I guess. |

Sorry, I came over all rose-tinted just then. Back on topic, I've tried to watch a couple of WTCC races this year after not bothering last year. They're just not... there's something missing. It doesn't *feel* like a world championship to me, tbh, but it's very difficult to articulate why. |

Perhaps I'm alone in thinking S2000 was more enjoyable than supertouring but meh. Regardless I think you can't deny the WTCC hasn't been anywhere near the standard it used to be a good 5+ years ago.

Guess what. Vila Real wasn't in its "licenced configuration" when Coronel crashed into a fire truck. Who'd have figured. |

Was that bcause they were using the SAFER (soft and flowery emergency retardation) Barrier rather than proper Armco?

In some ways the result is a barrier had been in place may have been worse. At least the car managed to scrub off some speed, and the van absorbed some of the final impact. Imagine the result of a head-on impact with a concrete barrier some 50 ft earlier.

If the van hadn't been there, Coronel's car would have crashed a house. It's totally unacceptable.
