one five five should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Triple M have been mentioning race results on their news updates for years, their daily evening sports show has had live on-location episodes at Bathurst with Mark Skaife co-hosting a number of times in recent years, and their old Saturday morning show "Dead Set Legends" with Ray Warren were live on-location for a few of the Homebush street races as well.

This new deal for 2017 with Triple M hasn't seemed to result in anything extra, just more of the same.

Meanwhile Network 7 see rights fees for sport going down, not up - might make it harder for a player currently on Fox to get back into the FTA market with no existing arrangement: Party's over lads

lucky supercars have an existing arrangement with every round on FTA

But truthfully we knew this was happening with Ch 7 offering less for Supercars last package

Only highlights of course for most round Pecky (personally I've given up on the highlights, get no sense of the story of each eace). Not really a full, existing package of events shown live when they're happening, so a long way back to that from where the current deal is (assuming that Network 10 digs itself out of current receivership).

My recollection is that 7 offered the same amount it had been paying but Fox put more on the table and the teams / Archer went for that.

I think that although today's statement is from 7, it would apply just as much to other networks, nine having made similar comments when asked about Cricket for example.

But live for traditionally the most watched rounds, that is why we have a 6 round live FTA package

7 made a massive reduction to their price for supercars when they started the 2 year deal for 2013 and 2014, you may remmber 3 teams handed their RECS back

Live for the most watched rounds - yep but again my point was (and is) that if they want to expand back to being live for all rounds on FTA, it'll be harder than if the sport was already live for all rounds on FTA. Means that any prospective network would either be relying on data from previous FTA deal or making assumptions - at which point they'd likely play it safe and not bid too high.

I thought that 7 simply offered the same deal again and with no better offer, it was accepted but that deal would have been announced 5 years ago and you may be right, my recollection may be flawed. Teams handing RECs back might be impacted in a small way only by broadcast revenue but it certainly wouldn't be the whole picture. No question the teams and Archer went for the short term gain of a better broadcast deal with Fox but also no doubt that some may be regretting it now.

Boss of Broadcast Rights specialists, Global Media & Sports, agrees that rights fees are at or fast approaching a tipping point: Yep, we're at a Tipping Point alright

Interesting reading, as an aside, considering live sport is one of the only real guaranteed ratings pullers right now it makes me wonder on the profitability of other types of television like talent shows and reality TV.

They keep talking about reduced revenue this year in the two articles, but you'd imagine that the Olympics is/was responsible for larger revenue figures in 2016? And don't forget, Sevens loss includes "a write- down of television assets and other intangibles and losses on investments."

With the ACCC not standing in the way of the Murdoch/Gordon buyout of Network 10, could be some interesting times ahead for Sports Rights negotiations:Virtual Monopoly?

Roy Masters who wrote this has written dozens of articles more anti pay tv than any of the people who post on this forum. He has been doing it for 20 years. The only other thing he gets worked up about to this degree is supporting his mate John Coates. He is a bit like a Fairfax version of Mike Jacobsen.Interesting to note in the Business section of the Herald today the FTA networks are pushing the government to legislate a maximum amount sports can charge for their TV rights. What a joke,
Also re EPL the current deal has been a financial blood bath for Optus as they paid $114mill more than they needed to and sign ups have been a long way below their projections.Likely to be back on Foxtel after May 2019 when the current deal runs out. Also Foxtel has had a significant fall in subscribers as their non sport subscribers have moved to cheaper streaming alternatives in huge numbers. The fall out is that sport is likely to be Foxtel's core business. They are restructuring the whole business to facilitate this.

cheers, I am enjoying 3 weeks free of EPL thanks to Optus current deal, but then it stops

I am weary about the future where the pay tv world is becoming more fractured, sure when it was manily just foxtel, it come at a cost but there was just one cost, now we are seeing more entrants in the pay world who come at a lesser cost, but im required to ahev more providers and thus it costs more.

Still enjoying the Supercars coverage, best we have ever had

Murdoch owned media is the primary EPL broadcaster in the UK - you certainly can watch EPL on Murdoch product - possibly more watch EPL on Murdoch than other platforms due to the UK arrangements.

No, you weren't clear. Strange ref to EPL when the big news about it for years has been the Sky pay TV deal in U.K. Was having a bit of fun though!
