McLaren Silverstone Test

McLaren is testing on two fronts this week. Kimi and DC were at Silverstone today. Kimi clocked a fastest time of 1:17.649! DC was next with a 1:18.026! 166 laps between the two of them. I realize it's only testing, but crikey!

Quite a difference there between KR and DC. What were they each specifically testing?

It is an obvious difference rather than a fundamental one, but McLaren have been playing with a new nose on the 19B. They are pushing through new developments.

A 1:17.649 aye? What was the fastest lap of the race?

Nevermind, it was MS with 1min 18.739secs.

That is really good. Of course, we don't know the difference in conditions.....but great none the less.

I guess Mercedes will be pullingout all the stops for a 'home win' as well. Lets hope McLaren have much success with their new car as it will mean we have three teams (McLaren, BAR and Renault) all capable of pushing the Ferrari's.

Lap time is important, but, as Silverstone GP showed, they need a lot more to beat Ferrari over the whole race.

Of course, some new cmpetition is absolutely welcome, even on Tifosi' side.

I'd only say it looks more conventional...what made it special in looks was that narrow ant-eater nose.

Now, its almost Ferrari/Renault-like with it's sidepods and new fat less angled nose.

But who cares..if it's fast..it's good. But i guess such a modification could suggest a change in design beliefs and the old-nose design is not feasible.

I have to say, it looks pretty ugly. Although more conventional - i think it's going to grow on me. Could be a looker like the MP4-17.

a bigger nose, but at least it's still down there near the front wing, not high in the air like all noses in recent years.

So...McLaren quick in testing.

Can someone explain to me how Jaguar managed to set a lap record in testing at Silverstone? Just curious.

And personally I think the nose looks better - the car never looked stable with it's little anteater snout.

Like the MP4-13s of old, it looks substantial and it looks quick.

Doesn't matter what it looks like, as long as the laptimes are good!

Interestingly enough, Antonio Pizzonia has just set an even quicker time then Kimi in the FW26.

A 1:17.388.
In fact, Jenson Button has also beaten Kimi's time.

Furter testiment that testing times don't really tell the ultimate truth - and that many other variables come into it.

My mistake, Pizzonia did not beat Kimi's time, but i spose my mistake was down to F1-live's mistake.

Williams test driver Antonio Pizzonia finished the day with the fastest lap at Silverstone..."

DKGandBH has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Testing includes "lets run very light and show our sponsors that we can be fast too..."

Cynically speaking, David.
