There has to be some reason surely, kpm? Personally, I don't feel that talent behind the wheel has too much to do with it (when there are so many seemingly more highly talented drivers around at the moment).

RD has had plenty of chances to offload DC but hasn't taken the oppurtunity. However, I think the main reason he's been kept is because of his working relationship with Mika. They got on well together and helped each other immensely and it kept the team in relative harmony.
And the reason DC is there next year is that Mika's announcement was made AFTER DC had been resigned. |

DC is not a natural champion, and in 2002 we will see this. Kimi will run him close, and a good car will be wasted. DC has had his chances yet every year Mika has been the better. Even now Kimi will challegne and beat DC.

I think DC is going to have to work VERY hard to make 2002 his year. Personally, I expect Raikkonen to have the upper hand, maybe not for the first few GPs, but when he settles in - DC had better watch out!

That Ron Dennis perseveres with DC is indicative, I feel, of his (RD's) increasing preference for staff that toe the line and do as they're told. He missed out on JV wen he had the chance, and at that time there was discussion that only certain types would make Mclaren Men. JV, and others with a bit of maveric spirit, would never be tolerated as such a control-obsessed team.

Yes - that's what I meant by his increasing preference.
Dwelling on that for a little longer - it's interesting that Ron Dennis' attitude in the Senna days seemed very much different to today. When he signed Senna he paid a very big sum (not as big as Senna wanted!) because he was convinced that he needed the very best. |

You have forgotten that DC look much better than Hakkinen in 97. One of this days DC will make you all ashamed of bashing him. Either that or I will have to eat my words once again….LOL

Why?
I did not understant the person who started this subject why he is so agresive about coulthard...
I think he had tried so much with hakkinen in this season but the technical performance of Mp4-16 was not enough... So how can a driver be champion when his car is so bad even M.Schumacher... Think that David get more points than Hakkinen in this season... |
