winter development program . . . . well it is an Escort!
Just looked at the site and ...... wow!! The development programme for the model Escort is just like real historic saloon racing.

This should be mandatory reading for Delta, Eric and Mike.

Back to the Escort rebuild. We are waiting for the Roll cage so tonight I'm going to start on the suspension. The only front struts i have are 1300 .Question can i just replace the inserts with heavy duty or do i bite the bullet and buy new struts.I would like to rebuild what i have as the budget is vanishing very quick.

Put HD inserts in. A full set of correct dampers will set you back serious wonga. That's for development. You just want to finish this race.

Iain, you need RS struts with bolt on steering arms- also fitted to Capri inj. Get Mart on the case! Then worry about springs and inserts.....

I'd have thought an hour with a rally design cattledog would tell you all you need to know ? you don't need much imagination to get a basic escort set up surely?

No I've only just got home. That last post of mine was sent from midldle of a car park...

Whatever you finish up with on front end you need to start with the standard TwinCam, Mex, RS, Capri Inj strut. This is stronger and has bolt on steering arm. (Latter available new or on ebay!)

Period Gp1 required non adjustable platform and original spring dia. Today rules allow adjustable platform and small springs. Your budget needs to be consulted. Gaz most popular now for complete units or AVO or Leda now producing again I believe. Also in period standard (rubber) top mount but now allowed rose bearing version- but not adjustable.

I'll get back to me Tesco sausages now

Iain, you have PM . . roller bearing top mounts . . . . Dave at Gaz is good to deal with too, and on a budget.

If building to Gp1 post 74 then the above applies. If post historic (pre 74) then nonadjustable platform and rubber top mounts. I understand the Capri struts also fit the Escort.

Correct Peter. My explanation was a bit rushed... If your first priority Iain is 360 then go for adjustable as OK for that and CTCRC gp1. Easier to pick up second hand as well. Only if you decide want to do their earlier series will it be a problem.

If you finish up with fixed original struts but use roller / rose bearing top mounts the latter raise front suspension at least an inch so springs have to be shorter to suit. Obviously with adjustable type can compensate by moving platform.

Teamwork.

BTW. If you do go the Capri/Adjustable root, make sure you get 2.8 struts. The earlier 3.0l stub axles don't fit the vented discs.

Henrik Pedersen should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
This is my sons winterproject: His Escort mk.1 1300 GT in Group 2 trim.
It is stalled at the moment due to his universitystudies ( and funds not present )
We have the vital bits, but he has to be very economical in his purchases of parts.
We are now looking for front and rear suspensionparts, done the right way.
Has anyone here any experience in sping/shockabsorbers dimensions, and does anyone know where the best gearbox internals come from ?

On behalf of Jacob
