I thought the Volvo block was cast at the same foundry in Scotland.

I thought the B16 Volvo which is the 3 bearing earlier version of the B18/B20, pre dated the pre crossflow Ford, but I am happy to be corrected by an eggspurt.

(Here we go again) First- you need to see what was homologated for the model- did it it have more than one size of carbs, were Webers an alternative, did it have an alternative tubular manifold, were bigger valves and different cam offered? Then it's down to what was allowed in AppK or J of the period- sure Zef will know that..... Last edited by Mike Bell; 11 Mar 2016 at 06:18. |

Given the way this thread has developed, I hope you don't mind the slight alteration to thread title.

For HSCC/HRSR you can choose to run in either the FIA App K classes or the HRSR classes which give more freedom. For the App K classes you need to start with the car's homologation papers from the MSA and they will contain the modifications allowed beyond standard spec. The modifications allowed for the HRSR classes can be found in the Technical Regulations found on the HRSR website or in the Historic Touring Cars section of the HSCC website.

The Amazon has tuning carried out back in the sixties from Ruddspeed. Does this influence the Part K?
Thanks |

Some of the Ruddspeed conversion may have copied the homologated options or may have been the basis for Volvo to have homologated such options. You will have to obtain the papers for the Amazon and check them against the Ruddspeed modifications.
I don't have a copy of those papers I'm afraid. The last time I got some from the MSA they were about £40. Make sure you get the latest pre-66 papers or those with the 'best' mods. I'm sure someone on here (Mike Bell?) will be able to guide you on how to find the homologation number you require. |

FIA homologation list- cars in alphabetical order, so Volvo right at end!
http://www.fia.com/file/2143/download?token=rEuyOfLN There are several for Amazon, so you'll need to know exactly which model you're looking for. And of course, as Peter says, it needs to be a homologation earlier than 1966 if you want to race in pre '66...... |

It all does get very complicated . There are different papers for the 4 door & 2 door models .
The 1966 papers for example are issued when the production has reached the required number from when the production started in Aug 1965 , so in theory should be eligible for a pre 66 series . Another thing to find out is the regulations for the events you are planning to enter , as that might be to FIA appendix J of [ for example 1961 or a different time ] , these would have to be read along with the Homologation papers & perhaps the current FIA appendix K . When you said you have a modified engine , that might be within Group 2 regulations of of period which allowed certain things , [ such as carbs etc ] to be " free" , so are not often shown in the Homologation papers .[ The Volvo,s are shown with twin SUs ] So it does take a lot of working out what you can do . |
