Nice, just like the Super Touring days, and now GT3. All development is done centrally, and ensures that all cars with that badge can potentially be competitive.

I wonder if others will follow suit?

They will still be able to utilise their chassis fabrication stuff through their DVS program.

Presuming they stay with Holden.
Or LDM
Or Erebus
Or Team 18
Or Tekno

Any or all or none of these teams might choose another brand

Wonder what markup T8 will place on their components. Just send a cheque to Roland!

In theory, economy of scale should make the cars cheaper.

You might hope that it could run as it did in the first instalment of Holden Motor Sport, where there was a price list, and presuming it was actually on your price list, and you had the money to buy/lease that component, you could order it and it would be delivered at that price, a price set by Holden Motor Sport, yet supplied by WP..

There is a later article suggesting that Mr Dane's organisation would have the capacity to provide full cars, or indeed kits for team construction of cars. Which would keep the fabrication & repair functions of full service teams ticking along.

No word around whether the Holden/888 mandate requires use of SACHS & ZF products under the skin either...

It would be interesting to consider around the engine whether Holden will pool funds for that program, and supply them on a subsidised basis in return for vehicle signage and/or some other marketing benefit..

In an era where costs are a focus it is crazy town to have 3 teams in such a small sport all developing an engine when the rules are going to put them so close together.

Sounds good. But what happens when the sole supplier gets it wrong? All teams perform poorly.

Or the sole supplier decides to price gouge and the less well off teams can't afford it and suffer failures or close down?

Hows that good for Holden?

Put them up for tender.

Make the engine supplier 100% accountable for the engine performance and reliability.

One could assume that the reason for this model, is actually to save Holden money.

They give the HRT 'name' to Triple 8, as well as the exclusive license over Holden product for the period of X, and it is through that relationship that Triple 8 make the money to spend on the development of the new product.

Holden stay in the sport, they pay less money than in the past, and they have someone else taking on the burden (and risk) of developing the product in return for all the potential benefits of being the exclusive supplier to customers.
