...The FIA needs a new 'leader'
Who would you have take his place? Ken Tyrell Jackie Stewart Sir Stirling Moss Jody Scheckter Phil Hill Mario Andretti Niki Lauda Nelson Piquet John Surtees Damon Hill (!) Derek Warwick(!!) Any other suggestions? Personally, I think it needs to be somebody who has actually driven an F1 car, along with most of the other series the FIA has a (strangle) hold over. Mansell would be my choice! C'mon! Time's ticking away... |

From what i read on these boards, why dont they simply pick someone who already works for the FIA? Say, Ross Brawn

Mansell and Schecter are too cranky. Andretti is too blunt and too American. I'd pick Ken Tyrrel. But they'll want a syncophant brown-noser so how about Ron Dennis?

Sorry, but the FIA can't have Mario -
We're putting him in charge of CART! (What about Rowan Atkinson??? His Edmund Blackadder personna would be a perfect replacement for the departing Max. And Bernie DOES look quite a bit like Baldrick.) [This message has been edited by Hyacinth (edited 15 May 2000).] |

...AND Rowan Atkinson races cars.
And he is at home at international events and club race meetings. He knows what it's like to be a spectator peering over the fence, 'cause I've seen him. I'll second the motion. Rowan Atkinson for president. |

I think Martin Brundle could make a great contribution to the sport. He's intelligent, honest knows the sport inside-out-and-upside-down. Gerhard Berger would be good, but he's been snapped up by BMW.
Trouble is, most ex-drivers wouldn't be arsed. Not enough money, not enough excitement... I used to think Damon Hill was a gentleman, but following his behavior last season I think he rekons that the world owes him a living. |

Why not both? They'd corner the market on handbags and probably put on a better show than the race.
Mr. Bean for head of PR. Or chief Scrutineer. |

Yes, the possible spin off's are many...
Bride of Frank 'n' Bean Frank 'n' Bean's Monster The return of Frank 'n' Bean Stop it! Ya kill me...! While we're nominating comedians, what about John Cleese? The racing would be second to the farce-like running of the whole show. No, wait. We've already got that - the only things missing are Duck a l'orange Blancmange and a red Austin 1100. |

Maybe a better question is, when Max resigns, what job will he take?
Televangelist? Meter Maid? BTCC flagman? |

Yes Liz, but Televangelist?
Aren't they supposed to try and convince everybody in TV land that they're telling the truth, when really they're ... Oh. I see. Point taken. |

I suspect Max missed his calling when he failed his Boards to be a proctologist.
Perhaps he'll try again. On a serious note, I like Lauda. Count on him to he honest, fair and outspoken. Actually, how about Prost? Get him away from his potentially great team and everyone's a winner! [This message has been edited by EERO (edited 18 May 2000).] |

What makes you think Max is going to resign? He's one of the undead. To get rid of it you have to drive a stake through its heart.

Who needs the FIA any way. With the amount of countries Max is threatening to boycott then there won't be much to be in charge of. Maybe thats the reason the FIA moved into switzaland as they have the idea operating systems for motorsport, NONE!

Michael.. He loves racing, done F1,sportscar etc, he works hard with the FIA with safety, and he had connections with the major teams/companies/key personnel involved F1 and other major category...and his management of things is pretty handy for a driver.
Or LdM. He had years of experience managing top tier events/teams successfully, knows alot about racing AND cars. In fact a more rounded choice than any other ex-F1 driver can be. |

Max has indicated he will do another term (Autosport last Thursday).
Well the first thing is to chose people who aren't dead or too old! No offense, but that rules out a couple from your list. I'm not to fussed about any of them, partly because I am unsure any of them would want to! Of those mentioned Prost or Stewart seem good. Although maybe Stewart would be seen as having conflicting interests? I am also not quite sure why Hill and Warwick require exclamation marks. Apart from the fact that Hill will be too busy enjoying himself. If those two have one and two exclamation marks I'd give Mr Serious Piquet 97 of them. and Rowan Atkinson, why not, he has a passion for the soprt and also motoring in general. He has an old A35 van on old hard tyres and a McLaren F1 - he says he loves to drive them on the same day for contrast! He also has a HGV licence. |
