The 2005 Season Praise Thread

Go on, admit it.

Somebody in F1, at some point, must've done something during the 2005 season that deserves postive comment.

In fact, why not say everybody must have done at least one thing.

Even Max (I include him only insofar as he is involved in the F1 season).

Whilst praising those you like is welcome, feel free, I think it would be particularly good if we try to make a positive comment about people we maybe do not like as much.

******

I guess I should start things off..........

Jacques Villeneuve, for playing things straight, combined with his composure, during the period when his contract situation was all up in the air.

Nice thread.
Congratulations to Nick Heidfeld for doing a good solid job and showing that he's still got more to give.

And to Tiago Monteiro for enjoying his 3rd place, despite of the circumstances. Good lad, he was right to be proud and happy.

Well done to Red Bull Racing for making such a strong initial impact and putting so much faith in F1 as a promotional tool and competitive sport, as well as bringing back the fun factor.

Well done to McLaren, who carried the fight to Renault (and Ferrari when you think on it) and fought all season!

Alonso and Raikkonen for proving there WILL be life after Schumacher!

Klien for showing that he isn't as bad as his first F1 season suggested.

Red Bull for doing a great job in their first season.

Just a few there.

Well done to Minardi for producing a new car, closing the gap on Jordan, improving throughout the year and giving the team a fitting send off.

I think that there were a lot of good things about the 2005 season. Some great drives and good races. I note DC hasn't been mentioned on this thread yet, so he would be my choice; a revelation with RBR.

Hein should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Schu - For never yelling and screaming at his team for providing him with a red painted minardi, and never giving up.

DC - For showing he still wants it, and still has it.

Kimi - Sheer determination and skill.

Nick - Proving a point

Red Bull - Just for being there and being different.

Trulli - Showing us all how to qualify.

JPM - Proving the well known point that one should not play tennis while riding a motorcycle.

JV - Keeping his head up

Martin Brundle - Providing fantastic commentry.

Bernie - Saving Spa

A refreshing thread, well done. Some praise goes out to:

- DC for proving so many detractors were wrong
- RBR for a surprising pace and some solid team/organisation building
- Michelin for putting the safety of the drivers ahead of everything else
- Peter Sauber for bowing out gracefully and looking out for his employees to the end
- JV for persevering and keeping his focus through some difficult circumstances
- Michael for never giving up and accepting gracefully that his WDC string was over
- Kimi for his class despite the disappointment of not winning the WDC mainly due to mechanical failures
- Toyota for finally showing some improvement with some solid results
- and finally to Bernie for realising the mistake of the 1 tyre rule per race and erasing the rule for '06

FA - For some maturity in driving.
All drivers - For making the Japanese GP, a one to remember.

Some fine additions so far, imho.

I will add:

Frank and Ron, and those other principals who did the same, for explicitly stating, both at the time and repeated later, that Ferrari did nothing wrong in starting the Indianopolis GP.

Toyota and for deciding to switch to Bridgestones for 2006.

Fernando for shining all aspects of driving through the year, changing his approaches and so on depending on the overall situation as the season deveoloped.

Kimi for his stunning heavy-fuel-going-to-lose-10-places pole position times.

Michael for that qualifying lap in Hungary, both in terms of the lap itself and the position it attained! That made me very happy.

The GPWC for changing its name to GPMA.

Albers, Doornbos and Monteiro for reminding us that back-end drivers, and teams, are not automatically rubbish.

great thread topic Dutton

a couple more shout outs:

DC - after getting knocked out during the first corner at brazil (iirc) there was a great shot of DC helping the marshals/stewards move his car out of the way, then running back on track to help pick up some debris, and then him sitting on the truck with those guys just chatting away. really changed my impression of him.

quote of the year goes to Alonso at Canada right after his shunt, (to be said in a spanish accent) "there's something wrong with the car...there's something wrong with the car!" all the while im sitting there thinking, dude you just drove into a wall thats whats wrong with your car! anyways, i found it very funny

TM for finishing in the points at SPA (and of course for JV also)

and generally great drives from almost all the drivers this year. big ups!
