I still think the Ferrari 2003GA is the most beautiful F1 car of the modern era...

Do I need help?

No, you'de need help if your choice was this years Elephant....sorry Walrus, sorry Williams. lthough, what is the 'modern' era?!

My choices:
-Merceds W125
-BRM P25
-Lotus 72D (also like the 006 because it was so, well stubby and different, but I can't call it beautiful!)
-Any Martini Brabham
-Lotus 79
-Jordan 191

Since sponsorship came in, the liveries have played a large role in what looks good and what doesn't.

A tad biasis perhaps. But take into account that this car shared the same grid as the "tea tray" Mclaren and it's successor was the disgusting 96 ("bulk-tastic") Ferrari.

The 70's era cars have always left me cold. The era's leading up to the 70's , however, had some great cars; and the 80's turbo era that followed included some of my favorites, but the 70's cars themseleves just never did anything for me - they always seem disconjointed and odd; as if someone had haphazardly stuck a wing here, an inlet there, some wheels in between and called it a day.

Viewed from certain angles even the sleekest F1 car can appear like a push-chair (and I don't mean a buggy!).

I think the livery has a lot to do with a car's appeal. They make a good car look great and a bad car look like a Jordan (sorry Eddie!)

When McLaren brought in their livery redesign 3-4 seasons back in my opinion it seemed to transform the car.

I know it sounds sad but this mindless trivia is what it's all about isn't it?

Armcobender, I'd never seen that version of the 312b3 before! The origanal released in early '73 was loverly. I recall a photo of Ickx at the press lauch unbuttoning his raincoat with this look of great glee before sitting in the thing. Too bad that it was so awful that he was gone before the season was weeks old. If he had stayed, the dog of early '73 would be THE car to have in '74. I'll bet that if he had hung on, he'd have been WDC in 74. Reggazoni, who was never Ickx' equal nearly was.

Inigo, I'm with you on the 312T4

Garcon, it's OK. I adore F2003-GA's swoopy, compact design!

I always liked the Newey Williams', always very neat and tidy. Especially the low nose generation.

Ugliest car? '84 Williams, 1996 B-Spec Ferrari. 1999 Minardi. '84 McLaren (complete with rear wing ears).

I could go on on both counts.

Being nit picking more like seven, '97 was the first year of the West sponsership.

Anyway, back on to topic, I think my favourite looking car(s), have to be (generational order)
Maserati 250F, gourgoues, especially in pics of Fangio driving it to the limit.

Moving on, next up, the Lotus 49 in either the original Brit Racing green livery, or gold leaf with wings

Can't really comment on the '70's generation, and to be honest I really didn't like the cars from the '80's, drivers were way too far forward, competely cocking up the asthetics. Then again, you could argue that anthing Gilles Villeneuve looked great, just due to how he drove

In the '90's (my first up generation if you like), I always liked the '91 Tyrell '92 Williams, and the '95 Ferrari as already mentioned.

Out of all the modern cars, it's a toss up betweeen the Jordan 199, or the Williams FW25.

just some of my veiws.
Ed

Still, they're designed for speed rather than aesthetics.

Although the two go together more often than not.

Doesn't the Museum of Modern Art in New York have a 1990 Ferrari?

A beautiful car. Smooth lines. Great colour. Looks just like a racing car should!
