Ha ha, I completely agree Bob!
Just using the old economies of scale rule that very rarely, (but sometimes) can apply to motorsport too ;-)

Easy to feel tempted and lose focus on what you are meant to be doing !!

I'm starting motor racing for the first time next year, I have a National B Licence to hand and I'm considering either Formula Ford or Formula Renault BARC as my starting point, anybody here race in FR BARC? I'm considering racing a couple of races in arrive and drive deals as I haven't got the budget yet to enter a full season, but I am looking to start as a pay-driver in a team to get a feel for the sport and just basically get started.

I've been the the Formula Ford sampler day and there's a couple of teams that I have expressed an interest in racing for, but I am also considering Formula Renault BARC as I believe someone said on this forum it is cheaper than Formula Ford. What would I be expecting to spend for an arrive and drive race? According to the brochure on Renaultsport's website an arrive and drive starts from £1,500.

Thanks

I think the enormous registration fee will make BARC Renault the wrong formula to choose if you only want to do a couple of races as a try out. Why not try some test days to see if you like it . If you are interested in that PM me.

Is a 97 tatuus tough enough to run over elevated curbs, especially in chicanes like they do in f1? I did that on several occasions because I was used to being able to do so in roadgoing cars, but it just occurred to me that it might not have been a good idea. So, what is common practise with those who have run such cars for years?

It's tough enough, the deciding factor is whether it unsettles the car sufficiently to make you slower than if you had missed the kerb.

Oh, and another one: Will wishbones from a 98/99 tatuus fit a 97? Someone is offering wishbones on racecarsdirect.com and I have a dent in one top rear wishbone and a slightly bent rear pushrod.

Happy New year all!

'jedrinck' - The 98/99 wishbones are longer and not interchangeable ;-(
Not sure if it's possible to completely change all the sets of wishbones to effectively make a wider track 97 but I think the mounting points are differently spaced.

Bob and Ian can definitely confirm... (and must have run out of turkey by now!)

Yes, festivities have ground to a halt and the harsh realities of trying to earn a living have returned.
You are dead right James, the 98 wishbones do not fit a 97. I saw an advert on racecars direct sometime ago for 98 tatuus w/bones. Bearing in mind that we make them, we couldn't recognise any of the items in the photographs.

Very difficult to answer, if you hadn't hit anything in those conditions, call it a success and go home.

Mr138 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi there

This is my first post on this forum, but I have to admitt Ive been lurking around for a fair bit. I know its a bit of a shot in the dark, but Im trying to compile a accurate dynamics model of the car, under steady state cornering conditions. Im trying to get the model as accurate as possble and im trying to find some data on the amount of downforce produced at different speeds. Would anyone have done anything similar to this and have any advice where to look? I have sent a few emails to tatuus, but no reply as of yet...

The car im trying to simulate is a FR2000 in BARC spec. Any help would be much appriciated!

Regards

Good spot Fraser... you are right, that is dreadful news. Unless of course Bob & Ian, you will be focusing you extensive energies on sorting out a proper club racing series for the older FRen cars.
