The purpose of Local Government - being close as possible to where the service needs to be delivered would support this.

And together with suitably qualified third parties they should be a good position to identify any hazards, assess the risk and put in place the necessary controls.

This is true if politics are kept out of the equation. Unfortunately that rarely happens.

Yeah I'm not sure a council would know what radius corner and how much runoff would be needed to follow a 220khm straight just off hand lol.

Councils are not something I'd put my faith in

having worked for a council,
I am whole heatedly agree with the abolition of the third tier of govt bureaucracy.

If any council says they are there for the people, then set up the lights for the pink pigs to land.
'Irrespective of what state you are in, Councils are just another money grabbing tier of govt.

Good people go in, some get there others our burnt out out .
Newcastle now sees a way to fix their failings, having avoided doing the works themselves, and now want some else to pay.
But will still charge the same rates etc
So either NSW govt funds or super cars paying to fix problems they have known about for years.

I suggest , to posters on this forum,
go and work for a Council, then really ask yourself , where the f**k does the money go

I always had a feeling, but after seeing it first hand,
Get rid of local councils.

Appoint administrators , get rid of event fairies , and others, rate payers will thank you

If the council wants the track to run there, then surely it's up to the track designers/builders to make sure the necessary safety provisions are made.

There is no long-term future for the event if Supercars think they can tell the local council where the track will go no questions asked. The two parties need to get along.

Depends if they are being deliberately obstructionist to try to appease the NIMBY crowd.

The Newcastle mayor is often interviewed by local radio.
One ongoing concern she has with the organisation of this event is the council is being told whats going to happen by the NSW state government. Essentially when they want the councils opinion, they'll ask for it....

There are exceptions of course - Mt Panorama is well looked after by the joint efforts of the council with technical input from Bruce Keys from CAMS.

Aren't the Supercars dB restricted to 95dB?

That's WAY quiet for a racing car.

Probably because this event is currently very topical in Newcastle and the newspaper is the Newcastle Herald???

and it's probably from letters to the editor???

the stuff in that story sounds typical of people who complain about race tracks.
We've had everything from added traffic meaning their cats get run over, to the rubber from drift cars landing on people 5km away
