Tim 27 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Those who remember F1 in the early 80's will hear "for sure" in many driver interviews from the time, so Michael can't be blamed for this one, that's for sure.

I remember as a kid getting annoyed with Alain Prost for saying for sure all the time. Maybe its translation in French is a everyday word?

No excuse for others

I remember Prost saying it alot, back in the day.
Probably got something to do with the French expression "Bien sur", or summat.

For me, even worse than "for sure" is the increased use in motorsport commentary of "gapping". I've heard it mainly in motorbike racing but it is creeping into cars too. "Rossi is gapping Stoner", "He really needs to gap him in the next couple of laps" etc.

Since when was "gap" a verb?

"To be honest" always bothered me more. It may be grammatically ok, but it's just as trite and a lot of times it means "here comes the lie...".

What about the phrase Yeah, not to bad. I am an American and when I went to a race there in England not to long ago every time I asked someone how are you, out came the phrase. It was comical. Every time they said my friend and I just giggled. So predictable. It's a habit

Th one that annoys me is when you ask how they are and the reply is "yeah good good". I only asked them once.

I've seen it in a lot of interviews... not just in F1, seems to be a common thing in motorsport!

If you're going to criticise English, perhaps you should learn to spell it first. I suppose we can forgive you, though, being American an' all!

One of the phrases used commonly in Wales is "I'll be there now in a minute" how can someone be here now but in a minute - just has never made sense to me!
