Gloves

If anyone is looking for a new pair of gloves I've found these. I must say the delivery was excellent, I placed the order online Tuesday lunchtime and recieved them Wednesday.

Which kind did you get and were they expensive.

I seem to be having a problem getting hold of gloves - how hard can it be to get Welder's Gauntlets?!

B&Q sell them for about £4. Not hte best quality, but mine have lasted a season of harder than average marshalling work.

cheers! I've tried homebase (who didn't understand that a gauntlet was a glove) and Halfords, but they only seemed to have them in large (I need a medium). I found the staff at both places thouroughly unhelpful, but I didn't think of B&Q.

Find your local BOC tradeshop, get the red ones with BOC on the back, about £5-ish, I use them at work and trackside, warm, comfortable and flexible.

just had a look on the site, and there is a pair of elbow length proban treated gloves for 7.50.they are also availible in nomex, but you need to contact the shop.
any way if they are good enough for our navy chaps, then they are good enough for me sailor
you can have any colour you want as long as it,s white.
they are also one size.

How quickly can you get them off? it looks like they would be somewhat tricky if you had to get them off fast.

You could always try your local BMMC Regalia Officer. Ours is doing Gauntlets for £5. Unfortunately they only come in red or green so if you wanted another colour.....

Try looking on www.marshals.co.uk

You don't have to be a member to buy equipment such as gauntlets.

Naval anti-flash gauntlets are not suitable for wear as marshalling gloves. They are of thin cotton construction and will soak up both water and petrol very well. (I've had several pairs for years!). (The nomex ones will suffer much the same disadvantages.)

Fine for PPE in flash/explosion environments but not for our use.

I reckon that a pair of thinnish leather gardening gloves from a large garden center are the best compromise between:
  • protection
  • heat resistance
  • easy of putting on or off
Regards

Jim
