Rogers ends driver speculation
Garry Rogers Motorsport has today ended weeks of speculation by confirming the signing of Cameron McConville to join its Repco Valvoline Cummins Holden team in 2004.
He will join Garth Tander in an upgraded assault on the V8 Supercar Championship that will also see the addition of further engineering and technical expertise to the GRM line-up. Ful text: http://www.racenews.com.au/?racenews=4637 |

So it finally confirms it. Yay!
A question though, will GRM continue their longheld practice of running 2 physically different chassis designs in their Repco Commodores in 2004? At the moment, they have 2 VY/VY/Auroras, one with the Larry bar and the other with a Larry and a Garry bar. One designed along the same lines as the VX and VT before them, the other reportedly computer generated. Something that wont work in the future would be if the 2 drivers arent in the same car spec chassis wise. Bargs always seemed to get the less loved of the 2 specs, here's hoping Cam isnt in for more of the same |

So who gets which chassis?
When I spoke to them in Puke, they had to garage the older VY Aurora because of a lack of cranks (Thanks to 9 going kaput! ) They also reckon they have another spare two cars in component form. Anyone see they have 50% percent off all 2003 GRM stuff? |

There are no 2 car teams out there that run the same model car that have such a disparate engineering philosophy between the 2 vehicles. GT claimed an improved chassis stiffness in the new car compared to the old... so there is a difference there.
And GRM managed to find enough parts to run Whincup at EC in a VY/VY/Aurora.... |

Good luck to Cam, he is one of the genuine nice blokes of the paddock, and a fit b*stard to boot!
So where does this leave Whincup? Is the proposed Konica drive on, or is he still fishing for a drive in the main game? |

This now has me curious, I wonder if anyone thought to tell LRT that Cam McConville has a new home next year

Hopefully GRM can give Cam the equipment to show his true talent in '04, but going on recent years they haven't been able to produce 2 quick cars. IMHO with the same equipment he would outperform Tander.
If Tander falls out of favour next year (as rumoured he may be on the move in '05), could he get shafted while McConville gets given number 1 status in terms of equipment? Have to wait and see... |

Repco are said to be primary sponsor, with Valvoline and Cummins reduced in size on the car.

Cameron has the potential to be a great figure head for Holden, they despiratley need someone like this up the pointy end to best represent their interests. Good Luck Cameron we wish you the best!

There's two levels of evil. The first level of evil constitutes Holden by the larger part and SHRT and GRM are on a level of evil all their own.

Who will drive for GRM if LRT take out an injunction preventing Cameron from driving for breach of contract.
LRT and McConville have a contract for at least 2004, so what's the flipping go? |

I dont think you can draw this conclusion just yet... LRT have lost their #1 asset with barely a whimper... makes you think they didnt know it was coming...

 you would think holden would want to keep a brand name driver in the only team situated in their biggest market maybe they have an ace up their sleeve? surely not bright? although he has the most vx experience

Maybe Holden had a bit to say. Cam is a 'Holden' driver and it may not be seen as good to have him trundling around midfield most of the time. If LRT stay with Holden i would say they will have a 'Holden' approved driver in 2004 and one that can develop a new car.
