CALAIS DISRUPTION Monday 6th Sept!
MONDAY 5th, not 6th! News is spreading that there will be a major protest on Monday by French transport organisations, farmers et al!
If they achieve their objective, Calais will be blockaded all day. There will be slow moving convoys on approach roads from 0630hrs..... Anyone planning to head home from Zandvoort on Monday, and due to use Calais- you have been warned! Also assume ferries to the port will not be running, but check with your operator..... Whether it will affect the tunnel, I've no idea. I guess also than Dunkirk could be free flowing..... Last edited by Mike Bell; 1 Sep 2016 at 16:53. Reason: Wrong date |

Perhaps they will protest anout the jungle at the same time. Then the French will get off thier xxxxs and clear the lot of them away.Scared the hell out of a couple of friends a few weeks back,no wonder they call it The Jungle.
Now my friends will never use Calais again untill the whole bloody mess is cleared out. |

However, interior minister Bernard Caezenouve is now reported by a local paper to have said that the camp will be progressively dismantled. In the meantime a further 200 police will be added to the 1,900 already involved. The illegal migrants are becoming increasingly violent. You may have seen some rather disturbing in-truck footage in the last few days from a Belgian truck whereby the driver was threatened with a pole through his windscreen if he took his foot off the brake. |

Last year I was ambushed about 1/2 mile from the ferry terminal by a couple of swarthy gentlemen. I tried to give them a taste of my bumper but they were too slippery.
This debacle has been going on for over a decade now and is still getting worse. Someone in France needs to grow a pair. It affects Dover and Calais, especially the Police, Customs, Immigration, Rail, and Ferry employees, who work in a constant nightmare. Taking a lorry through there is terrifying when the traffic backs up. In the middle of the jungle are British charity workers encouraging them. Don't forget to check your vehicle for any unwanted passengers. If someone sneaks aboard you are a people smuggler and will get fined plus a criminal record. |

That the best (or worst) pic I've seen of the aftermath! Shows just how close the driver of the DAF was to getting a face full of bridge.
So the M20 will be open again in time for all the Dover traffic to queue on it as the ferries (likely) won't be operating..... |

Truck? Lorry, surely......
Well, it happened, and affected access to the tunnel as well as ferry port. Started a bit late (Monday morning feeling?) and finished a bit late. According to the ferry and tunnel Twitter accounts, the blockade is lifted, but looking at live traffic map, there still seems to be some stationary traffic on the Autoroutes! Train and ferry customers were able to use diversions down side roads and through Calais to avoid the blockades, so probably delayed but not a disaster for them or the operators. And the protestors got the media coverage they were after..... Let's hope that's it for now and all quiet for Spa trip next week! |

Uncle Eric drove up from Spa yesterday evening and from what he said he somehow managed to rock up on the A26 via Saint Omer and drove straight into the Eurotunnel.
I hope I don't get any holdups going to Goodwood on Saturday |

We've only sent 1 guy out this week. He went via the tunnel this morning (always the better option) and had no problems, but the protest was reported to have been stood down last night so we weren't expecting any trouble. HOWEVER! there is another general strike scheduled for Thurs 15th Sept. In the past these haven't impacted too severely on the Calais crossings but with the strength of local feeling there's a risk this time might be different.
General advice, don't stop overnight (or leave your vehicle unattended)within 150km of Calais and avoid arriving in the hours of darkness. |

The sea was the warmest I had known . Not a bad place to go back too twice in one week . I will admit I would still of preferred Goodwood . Cest la vie

Errr, School holidays have just finished- it will be (relatively) dead this week! It will be the turn of the retired folk plus caravans to take their holidays next week...
