This race was the first breakaway "Thundersports" event effectively wasn't it? It could have been called a TraNZam event as well on the telecast, i have the race on DVD but haven't watched it in ages.

It was a huge array of machinery, from the top Sports Sedans to GT cars to the Mark Petch-owned Merkur TraNZam car which, from memory, ran from the back of the field but stormed through.

Group A participation wise, The three Benson & Hedges BMWs of Longhurst, Jones and Morris competed, so too did Kevin Waldock in the Playscape Sierra, the Wilmington Supra...any others?

I think Kevin Heffernan ran his VL Commodore and maybe John English ran his.

I know Mike Twigden ran 1 of Bob Jones VL Commodore's (PE006) and John English ran his VL in 1993

How else does that explain how Skaife topped the times in official qualifying with a 2:13.8 lap that was only one second slower than his 1991 pre-shootout time? And he did this in a car that weighed 150 kg more and supposedly had around 180 hp less. Even allowing for the cars 4WD advantage, there is no way they should have lapped Mt Panorama as quick as they did in the specification the car allegedly had. Maybe laps in the 2:16's, but not 2:13's.

Also, early in the ATCC when they 'only' had 450 hp and 1400 kg, the Nissan's were blown off by the Sierra's and faster Commodore's on the straights at Sandown and Symmons Plains. Yet at Bathurst with an extra 100 kg added to the cars and the horsepower figure still saying 450, the Commodore's presented no problems, and the cars were able to hold or even beat Dick's Sierra on both Mountain and Conrod Straight's.

CAMS were hookwinked, simple as that.

Sorry for digging up an old post, but was Mallala round aired on TV at all? I am unable to find any footage literally everywhere.

I bought the season review on VHS from Duke Video, but it's so long since I watched it, that I honestly can't remember if there were any rounds not included.

Was Mallala on TV?

There was no telecast as per the other rounds of the championship.

But highlights were shown on the Channel 7 Sportsworld program the following week.

I have it in my archive but on VHS and I don't have a VHS player at present.

I have not seen it on YouTube or anywhere else.

From memory it is no more than five minutes.

Still, I would love to see it, even if it is that short
