I assume he meant the panel would show a number and the colour would show the class. Not that you would have to count the dot to get its position.

Not a bad idea imo - its easy enough to read a cars number so why would it be hard to read this?

With LEDs the way they are I can't understand why they do not put a panel of LEDs in the sides of the car to show actual position in the race. It would only need something about 25cm by 20cm and could show all the way down to 99th place.
Glad to here this is coming in, it should make a big difference for spectators.

Re. the test, does anyone think an RS Spyder will not be the fasted P2 car over the weekend?

That Speedy Lola Coupe with the proven, poweful, Mazda AER engine, could be very quick down the straights.

Judd DB in the Speedy Lola coupe, JAG, not the Mazda/AER.
The team will be using the test as a shakedown.

Possible confusion with race number, I know it sounds daft but trust me its not easy to spot a number when an incident is happening and another number on the side of the car will confuse very easily!

i would think its likely one of the RS spyders will be the fastest in LMP2 but i would think the zytek 07S2 and the lola mazda will be only very slightly slower and ofcourse we cant forget that MG/AER engined RML lola, i think the MG tuned AER powerplant could surprise us, plus we have the coupe lola which i think will be fast at paul ricard due to its lower drag coupe set-up.

Plus I reckon it would be easier to see the three lights as a car sped past you, your brain would only need a fraction of a second to work out the position, especialy if there were quite a few together. It's the old Analog/Digital clock thing, I can glance at an Analog clock and instantly know what the time is, whereas with a digital I actually have to read it. Probably my age tho

Testing is underway, and DSC have posted their first report...........

Half an hour in and a Pescarolo has already dipped under last year's quickest lap, a 1:43.473 compared to last year's quickest lap of 1:43.705 (that figure is from memory so I stand to be corrected) which was posted by the Peugeot.

Seems Robbie Kerr may be piloting the Speedy Sebah Lola, great news if that's turns out to be the case!

No Peter Owen this year.........Bob Berridge's wife, Amanda Stretton relpaces him in the Chamberlain Synergy Lola (becoming the first lady to race a modern day LMP1).

Just checked, 1:43.705 is correct, quickest petrol P1 last year was the Rollcentre Pescarolo posting a 1:44.025.

I notice the new LMS website has no live timing at the moment, that I can see.

From memory, I don't think we've ever had live timing for the Ricard test. Interesting to note from the DSC article that even the on-site timing screens are unable to cope with more than the top 18 cars on track (the system caters for F1/single seater type testing and rarely, if ever, needs to cater for more than 18 cars).

Hasn't FIA GT run the track in recent years?

We rely on the likes of Daily Sportscar and Endurance-Info to post the times on their websites. They are on-site at Ricard and will provide regular updates over the next two days.

Hi, i'm new here.

I'm not a member of DSC, so is there anywhere else i can view the online timing?

I'm a big fan of the LMS and i am loving seeing these pictures!

Some things I notice so far:

* Easy to tell the Oreca-Courages apart - One's blue, the other white. Shame several other cars are all white, like...
* ...Rollcentre and Saulnier's LMP1. Rollcentre has the new raised nose and relocated brake ducts and an effing big splitter, while Saulnier has the old style.
* Sebah seems to either be running last year's Spyker Roadster for this test rather than a new Laviolette. Also, it seems they've switched to Michelin for the full season, rather than the originally announced Dunlops.
* Did Cytosport bring their B06/10 to Europe, or have they just repainted the Charouz B07/17 in Red/Silver?
* Loving looking Strakka Racing DBR9 - Peter Hardman and Nick Leventis driving.
* Creation is flying the Japanese flag?
* New, lovely paintjob for Bruichladdich.
* That's a massive duct replacing the rear passenger window on the V8 Vantage.

They don't have live timing, they simply reported the fastest lap set in the first 30 minutes.

Spyker did say that the Laviolette would not be ready for this test.

Anyway, does anyone know who is driving for AMR 007 and the Vantage GT2 aswell??

Don't know, but my guess is that Darren Turner could well be at the wheel of the GT2 and Tomas Enge the 007 GT1........but that is just a guess.

Sportmotores.es reported this week that Antonio Garcia said during an interview he will drive a factory Aston Martin DBR9. Maybe he is testing there.

20 minutes until the lunch break, should get some preliminary lap times in half an hour or so (or less if we're lucky!).

Hmmm, interesting on the pesca front.

compare http://www.endurance-info.com/2008_LMS/00_HTTT/27.jpg
with http://www.endurance-info.com/2008_LMS/00_HTTT/27.jpg

I'm guessing picture 2 is the P2? And that Shorty car is radically different at the front from last year.
Speaking of Radicals, I hope the Radical stays black, its stunning.

Top prizes for test presentation so far for Larbre and RML, both lookin very profesh even for the test.
