Olly Hollamby 1944-2009
I am very sad to say that my Dad, Olly Hollamby, passed away on Thursday 17th December aged 65, after a short, but fiesty, battle against cancer.
Olly raced FVee and SuperVee during the 70's and 80's. He won the SuperVee championship in 1977 and 1979. He was also instrumental in the setting up of the Beetle Cup in the 90's. He took up sailing and flying once he stopped racing but was always a keen follower of F1. A great guy who lived life to the full. I have posted on this forum because I saw a few links to here when I searched for his name on Google. Thought there may be a few drivers, marshals and journalists who would remember him? Olly’s funeral will be held on Monday 4th January 2010, at 12.45pm, at Beckenham Crematorium, Elmers End Road, Beckenham, Kent, BR3 4TD. After the service you are welcome to join family and friends at The Pickhurst, Pickhurst Lane, West Wickham, BR4 0HH. Family flowers only, but if you would like to make a donation in Olly’s memory, please write a cheque made payable to The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign, and send it with the reference Keith ‘Olly’ Hollamby either to: J & R Killick Ltd (Funeral Directors) 112 High Street West Wickham BR4 0ND or The Royal Marsden Fundraising Dept Downs Road Sutton SM2 5PT Alternatively you can donate online at http://www.royalmarsden.org/Campaign/Donate/GiftInMemoriam Last edited by shaunhollamby; 29 Dec 2009 at 18:41. |

Hello Shaun,
Sorry to hear your news. I'm not sure whether I ever saw your Dad race but I well remember reading the reports back in his heyday and thinking that he, along with a very select number of other talents, might well have been successful on a bigger stage had circumstances allowed. I am sure you will find comfort in your memories as time passes. It sounds like there is much to remember. Best regards, Grant Perkins |

Sorry to hear the sad news. Two of the best years of my life were racing a Beetle in 95/96 and without the Beetle Cup I would never got to do that. RIP Olly.

Hi
We had Olly's funeral earlier this month, a 2 day hangover proved it was a good day! Anyway his wife, Lesley, put together a picture board and one section was to do with his racing. I have put together a few shots that I thought may be of interest. Feel free to comment on/or correct my captions! Me and Olly (in car) Brands Hatch 1991ish? He did a 1 off FVee race, finished second. Scarab. Rare shot of Olly smiling at a race meeting! Scarab. Second place. Not bad having not been on a track for nearly 15 years! Scrambling with long-time and mechanic Mick House. Late 60's? Highly technical FVee in those days! Earlier 70's. Austro? FVee Austro early 70's. Formula SuperVee. Mid 70's Royale? Seat fitting in March 79V with his mate Martin Thompson. This was his favourite car. Might be interested in buying it if someone knows its whereabouts? 1979. With his mates John Wade and Mick House at Oulton Park by the look of it. Early 70's. March 79V If I had to picture one look that encapsulated my Dad this is it! Concentrated and determined. Royale 70's, looks like Snett? With John and Mick. Smiling again, bloody hell! Royale SuperVee again. March 79V with the updated sidepods. Cadwell Park? and unknown fans! Lining up for that one off FVee race, 1992ish. March 79V at Brands, he used to keep the car there when you could hire the garages like a lock-up. Dave Manton (middle) was the mechanic in those days. I am on the right. March 79V. Olly with Mike Catlow, I think? March 79V. There seems to be a common theme whereby the car is constantly in various states of disrepair! March 79V, Sachs Curve Hockenheim? To the winner the spoils! Stop showing off Mum. Heres that common theme again! And again! And again! The glamour of motor racing! Bruce Venn and his Argo. Wakey ,wakey hands off Snakey! More work! And again! Nice shot of 79V March. March 80V at UK SVee launch at Brands 1980. In the paddock at Brands 2008 at Dunlop Sportmaxx races cheering me on to a ****e 5th place! March 79V. March 79V Silverstone 1979 with John Elliott and Gwen Kinchen. Mac Daghorn chats to Bruce Venn in his ARGO at Silverstone 1979. Silverstone 1979. Somethings of interest in that wheel! March 79V Silverstone 1979. March 79V 1979. The eye of the tiger! Bruce Venn ARGO 1979, Silverstone. March 79V Silverstone. |

No Idea on the whereabouts of the car Shaun but I stumbled across this cutting from Autosport the other day. Thought it might be of interest.
