graeme should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Birkett 2010

Great race on Silverstone GP! To my mind, a 60 car start sounds as though it cold be the biggest ever race start in the UK...?

Eh - how's that going to work? Doners max grid capacity is 38 (for the GP circuit) is 38. Long races (3 or 6 hours) give an extra 20% (can find the fugure anywhere...), so that's a maximum of 45-ish starters allowed. (Silverstone GP Historic is 50 starters + 20% for the 6hr Birkett = 60 starters. Its the largest capacity grid in the country so I can't see how it could be beaten).

That was the first time I'd been and I loved it. Having trouuble finding the regs though. Anybody know where there hidden or is it a bit of a closed shop?

I don't think there's any standing regs - supplimentary/final regs are sent out to each team manager once you've entered.

Still a lot of cars - I couldn't see the lights from where I was on the grid. On-board camera shows I overtook a dozen cars on the first lap (although including 4 who passed me when I picked the wrong queue through Becketts)!

Too much modern stuff now I think, I heard one or two grumbles. The winning team had two of those little Clio Cup pocket Rockets with sequental this and that and a pair of late model Minis, kinda spoke for itself really.

Fun Cup World Finals
The World Final is such a popular event that it is now oversubscribed. We are
limited to 66 cars on the grid for this race.

This is a small cut/paste from the funcup newsletter off their website..

Yes I suppose so but when you are pitching old Jags etc. up against these little modern buzz boxes it makes the whole thing seem a tad irrelevant. No one seemed to know how the handicap system worked either as I was total confused the whole day, not really for me I have to confess.

Al, you seem to be missing the whole point of the event. The idea is that you can turn up in anything from an Austin 7 to modern GT3. If you only want to race against similar cars from a similar era then this isn't for you.

As for the handicap system, does anyone really understand how that works? But again that's part of the fun.

Well we entered with a team of 5 Imps and had a great time in spite of the much faster cars out there - usually we are quite fast through the corners and later on the brakes than our usual historic opposition, but many cars in the Birkett started on slicks and then went onto soft wets whilst we stayed on Dunlop historic crossplies throughout! But there were still plenty of cars around our pace to race against - loads of fun.

Al - I'm sure the 750MC would take more teams of older cars if they entered, but they have to fill the grid to pay for the event. It's up to owners of older cars to get organised and have a go.
