The Streets of Birmingham
Anyone read about the plans for Birmingham's street race being abandoned. Shame, isn't it!?
Anything new like this has got to be good for the sport... |

Not sure what they mean by a speed event though. Seems little doubt that what they have in mind is a high-profile (historics as well?)event that would not help grass roots sport. Even less chance of keeping closed roads for another day to run a speed event to normal speed event class structure? We are still waiting for Goodwood House to leave things in place for an exra weekend so that a real cross-section of hill climbers could run there....

I don't think they know what they want yet!
I think there would have to be some competitive element to it to spice it up a bit and I agree, a proper event would be good! |

Why don't they? I am sure Lord March would appreciate another money-making chance....

Dont forget that Goodwood House happened because a club speed event organiser did knock on the door - but the idea was taken over for what we have there now.

Apart from local council planning restrictions.

I asked Lord March about getting club races on the "spare" Goodwood licence days or to run on the hillclimb at last year's BARC AGM - a polite but fairly firm "no"...

Can understand the Goodwood circuit (where trade off of sprint and rallies was used to get the unsilenced revival meeting)(to the disgust of club competitors). Hill climbs on temporary courses come under the 14/28 day regulation ie.planning approval not required - the law that was going to be changed and fortunately wasn't (the one all of you in the UK wrote to your MP's about at the time I hope...)

It's a shame if Brum is being abandoned. The street race in England was a great event. Perhaps it will happen again one day. Anything that raises racing is good for 'grass roots'
